A new Zogby Interactive poll confirms what many Democrats already believe: If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, Democrats will lose. Labels: 2008, Polls, Presidential
The polls suggests Clinton would lose to every one of the top five Republican presidential contenders. Meanwhile, fellow Democrats Barack Obama of Illinois and John Edwards of North Carolina would defeat every one of the Republicans, this latest survey shows.
Clinton will be in St. Louis this Sunday, Dec. 2. She will be speaking at the Pageant, 6161 Delmar, at 5:00 PM. This is Sen. Clinton's last trip here before the Iowa primaries. Student tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.hillaryclinton.com/stlouis.

The democrats that believe Hillary can't win the general election are the Obama and Edwards supporters. If I was them I would be spreading this manure too!
It's ironic that the Republicans say that they really want to run against Hillary. Now we believe them?
Nice try but no cigar! (no pun intended)

The republicans like Slay, who do not have to run this year, are comfortable with Hillary at the top of the ticket. The actual democrats, who have to keep and win seats in the legislature, as well as save us from four more years of Slay's ally Matt Blunt are damned nervous about the number of people who will not vote for Hillary no matter who the opponent is.
Talking point memo had a lot of negative comments posted about their refusal to post the zogby poll---they found a Gallup poll which was slightly less unkind to hillary and posted it, instead.

The Democrats need to nominate Obama in order to win, and especially to win Missouri. Black turnout is the key to a Democrat win, and black turnout will be dismal if the top 2 ballot spots are occupied by Hillary (whose criticism of Obama has been over the top) and Jay Nixon.

I don't think one should rely too much on this Zogby poll.
Zogby's polling methodology has been seriously criticized. He often has, shall we say, very "self-interested" clients. While there's nothing wrong with that, the polling results promulgated to the public often jibe with his clients' interests.
See, for examples, this American Prospect piece, or this supposedly objective "press release" (Giuliani is a Zogby client).

Hilary winning and taking Slay to Washington helps the city by getting Slay and his cronies out of city hall.

More on the Zogby poll here at TPM. Apparently the latest from Zogby is exceedingly out of sync with contemporaneous polls by other polls (including the latest from Gallup).
Greg Sargent:
You could argue that the Zogby poll got all the coverage it did precisely because it is out of sync with multiple other polls, and thus is news. But the truth is that the reporters and editors at the major nets know full well that the Zogby poll is bunk -- yet they breathlessly covered it anyway.
Worse, the Zogby poll was covered with few mentions either of its dubious methodology or of the degree to which its findings don't jibe with other surveys. Bottom line: The Zogby poll was considered big news because many in the political press are heavily invested in the Hillary-is-unelectable narrative for all kinds of reasons that have little to do with a desire to, you know, practice journalism.

greg sargent made a complete ass of himself today trying to misinterpret Obama regarding the issue of whether the usa would have permanent bases in Iraq.
Dodd had said this:
In a Dodd Administration, there will be no permanent bases in Iraq.
Obama, who had several previous statements on record already, sent this to answer Sargents request.
"Barack Obama will make it clear from his first day in office to the American people, the people of Iraq, and to the world that the United States will not seek permanent bases in Iraq."
when sargent posted this headline, he was clobbered with a deluge of complaints and various links to Obama's position.
Obama Responds To Permanent Bases Story -- Falls Short Of Full Opposition
and finally---another statement from Obama just so he could not possibly parse it into something it was not---
"Barack Obama is against permanent bases in Iraq. He will not seek them. He will not build them. We will not have permanent bases in Iraq if Barack Obama is President."
from Hillary he got---uh---"I am particularly concerned that this document did not contain any explicit reference or language that indicates that the United States will not seek and will not maintain permanent military bases in Iraq."
Thanks for your concern---whatever the hell that means, Hillary.
but---tpm is a terrific site--Hillary slanted with Obama people jumping all over them at every turn---lots of great information there. And as much as I wish it wasn't---the zogby poll is suspect.
