Comptroller Darlene Green and License Collector Mike McMillan were among the estimated 350 people who attended a "Unity Rally" yesterday organized by Citizens to Recall Francis G. Slay. Labels: Events, Francis_Slay, Mayor, Recall
State Representative Jamilah Nasheed, who has been the most visible elected official in the recall effort, served as emcee for the event which was also sponsored by the St. Louis Clergy Coalition and the Gateway Green Alliance. The event took place at the Gateway Classic Foundation building downtown.
According to the event's flyer: "The mayor has a history of playing racial politics, and a history of ignoring the wishes of the people. The Unity Rally is to show the power of the people – of all races – to stand against this racial and social injustice."

Elected School Board member Donna Jones has also been very active and supportive of the recall efforts.
Jesse Todd, 18th Ward Committeeman
David Jackson, School Board Member
William Purdy, School Board Member
Peter Downs, School Board Member
were also in attendance.

This situation would have had more bite to it if George would have made the promotions "DO WHAT YOUR BOSS TELLS YOU TO DO", retired and then stood with the Black Loudmouths em I mean the Black Leaders on this subject. The funny thing about all of this is, when the recall fails, the Black Leaders will be even less significant than they already are.
I really wonder how many Blacks, percentage wise, consider these loudmouths their voice.
How many Black consider Chief George's actions a gamble that he lost?
How many Blacks can take responsibility for their own actions and not blame someone else?
I work with three blacks that believe Chief George got off easy and that he didn't get fired. I guess you'd call these men "Uncle Toms" because they don't share the views of the "Radicals".

The Gateway Green Alliance is a mostly white group with leadership from University City (Don Fitz and Zaki Baruti). I guess it's wrong from Slay to take direction from county donors but somehow right for city residents to be led around by opportunistic lefties from the county.
Oh, well -- the absurdity of the recall effort will only get more absurd before it falls apart and Slay is re-elected in 2009 with 80% of the vote.

I am disappointed Mike McMillan would get involved in this.

I have some admiration for what some of the supporters of the recall have done in the past.
I do think there should be a time---I do not know when---that a progress report is given upon the number of signatures gathered.
If it is a case of 2500 gathered, and 40,000 plus to go---that would be very different than 25,000 gathered and less than 20,000 to go.
As the number of months until the next mayoral election approaches less than 12----people need to know whether this is a realistic effort.

Sad just sad. I knew Miss Green was racist but I never thought of Mr. McMillan that way. I guess I'll have to remember the Rep. Nasheed rules for voting...if you are white you cannot vote for a white male because that is racist. If you are black you must vote for a black person because whites are evil.
I hope this recall nonsense fails and Ms. Nashedd and Ms. Green are run out of office and replaced with people that actually represent the black and white community.

I keep seeing the same 'ol faces at these so called rallies.
I agree with the earlier post stating that when this recall effort fails the "black leadership" coalition will look even more powerless than it alredy is. Green will not be re-elected, and now McMillan is stupid to get involved, as he will lose support.

Mike is looking for an easy way to become mayor. He has never gotten in office by facing a challenger.
He wants in since Lewis might be able to beat him at the polls.

I would pay $10,000 to see the facial expressions of that damn Slay,Rainford and Slay's "boy" Bryson when they get the news that the recall effort is successful! It will serve as a civics lesson to all politicians not to go against the will of the citizens!Kudos to the politicians that are participating in getting rid of that damn Slay!
11/19/2007 12:22 PM
Was Lewis Reed there? If not, why not? Why does he get a pass from the St. Louis American (and others) for not vocally supporting the recall?
11/19/2007 12:27 PM
It is interesting that the
Black Republican Leadership
(that backed Slay's Raiders)
are now for the re-call.
Maybe Jeff Rainford really
did put the Mayor's foot
into something he won't be
able to get out of this time.
11/19/2007 12:31 PM
Would a different President of the Board of Aldermen support the recall?
11/19/2007 1:46 PM
According to the event's flyer: "The mayor has a history of playing racial politics, and a history of ignoring the wishes of the people. The Unity Rally is to show the power of the people – of all races – to stand against this racial and social injustice."
"History of ignoring the wishes of the people!!"
What a load of crap, It's an out right lie! The will of his constituents was to get rid of the current fire chief because of HIS outright/blatant racism.
It was the right thing to do!

Not surprised that Green was there but I was surprised that Mr.McMillan was. I can't believe that he would get involved with these radicals and so called "black leaders".I just lost some faith in him. Damn, so much for him becoming mayor...
11/19/2007 2:24 PM
I believe it was Darlene Green who got more votes this past election than Francis Slay. I think she'll be in fine shape come 2009.
11/19/2007 3:19 PM
She is also incompetent and about to look very bad after the state audit. Green must go.
Maybe Mr. McMillan can make up to St. Louis for associating with the "I hate white people" club and run for Comptroller. That office needs to be fixed and soon. I heard that is the largest office in City Hall, over 125 employees! How can the comptroller be the most wastefull office?
11/19/2007 3:41 PM
^
Good point. It's ironic that the state audit will end up hurting Green more than Slay, and give the Slayers a good fall woman.
11/19/2007 3:47 PM
McMillan is a joke. He'd throw his own momma under the bus if it would make him mayor and he has absolutely no backbone.
11/19/2007 4:23 PM
If the recall is successful, the committe people of the 28 wards will then vote on the nominee for mayor. If it really is about race, as the recallers say it is, then dont they think Slay will get the votes of the committee people.......since it is more whit e committee people than black committee people. Just a thought. The recall may be successful, but they still dont have the votes from the committee people to nor renominate Slay.\
This is almost comical now.
11/19/2007 4:57 PM
If the recall is successful, the committe people of the 28 wards will then vote on the nominee for mayor
If the petition has enough valid signatures, it will trigger a special citywide recall election. If the recall is successful, the president of the board of aldermen will become mayor.
11/19/2007 6:18 PM
Lewis Reed as mayor...hell no. Good guy but I don't think he is capable of leading a city.
Won't the fact that Mike McMillan is gay hinder his chances of becoming mayor.
11/19/2007 6:57 PM
I can't wait to see how short the Recall petition is of signatures. It has about as much chance of being successful as Irene J. Smith did for her bid as Mayor. ha.
11/19/2007 9:13 PM
I did not see Lizz Brown at the recall rally. Where is she?
11/19/2007 9:21 PM
The White Folks that write in this Blog thinks that Francis Slay is God......Case Close.......
11/19/2007 11:19 PM
If you have a sex change can you run for mayor?
11/20/2007 12:30 AM
Jeff Rainford and Richard Callow should go back to work and quit blogging so much. Jeff is supposed to be running a city.
11/20/2007 4:06 AM
Look for the the state audit to be the Comptroller's finest hour and the last nail in Slay's coffin.
Keep on underestimating Green.
11/20/2007 9:14 AM
Green and McMillan have to dip a toe into this issue otherwise it is poltical suicide. Even if they dont agree with the situation they lose more by not showing up.
However, the momentum from the recall will not be enough to elect a qualified candidate from the black community to beat Slay.
The politics of race cuts both ways, especially in a city this divided.
That all being said my guess is that the recall dies a slow bitter death and Slay is reelected by the lowest margin he's ever had. Four years later there will be two highly qualified candidates. One from North and one from South city who both have broad appeal. There will be a clean sweep of "do nothing" Alderman and the new Mayor will actually have a good working relationship with the BOA and the city will FINALLY start turning things around before every family decides to move to the county.
11/20/2007 9:48 AM
Who Cares????
I agree that some people are treated unfairly. You would have more support if you chiose your battles more closely. Sherman George was the worst thing to happen to the fire Department on more than 150 years.
He surrounded himself with unqualified yes men that were afraid to tell him when he was wrong. Sherman George did more in is 8 years to widen the racial divide of the Department.
Good Ridince DEPUTY CHIEF George.
11/20/2007 10:57 AM
Mike McMillan wants to be mayor. To be elected mayor, he will have to get votes from all over the City. By throwing in with the crazy people, he made that much, much, much harder. He cannot become mayor if he only gets votes in one part of the City from one group of people. He slit his own throat.
