Former state rep Joan Barry kicked off her campaign for the State Senate Friday at the IBEW Local 1439 union hall in south St. Louis. Joining her were Dems from across the state, including State Sen. Harry Kennedy, the term-limited Democrat she's seeking to replace.
The host committee of the event included: former Congressman Dick Gephardt, Congressman Russ Carnahan, County Executive Charlie Dooley, County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch, Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, State Senators Harry Kennedy and Jeff Smith, State Reps. Sue Schoemehl, Mike Vogt and Pat Yaeger; Democratic Party chairman John Temporiti, and Committeepeople Earl Blasé and Ann Pluemer.

Glad to see Joan Barry is getting back into the political arena. She will be a great replacement for Senator Kennedy. Very impressed with her showing the other night at the kickoff, and the video looks like there was alot of supporters! I hear about 150 by the end of the night!

But she's Pro Life not any different from Republican Lempke or soon to be out of Jeff City finally Harry Kenndy yawn...yawn..yawn..Does she have any black supporters I saw none there. Heck Harry got less than 100 votes when he ran in this turf and he's not much of a committeman in the 14th ward (S.Gregali's ward) heck they didn't have meeting or nothing for years while Harry made state salary.

She may be pro-life but number one rule in politics you stand for your district supports, and my friend the 1st Senate District is a pro-life district. And your stupid to think there is no difference between her and Lempke! He is a right wing nut! Joan supports children's healthcare, supports worker's rights, and a public education system.
FYI...there was black supporters there. Ask the editor of the blog, as he left before the speeches and by the end she spoke the crowd doubled in size, and a good mix of what the district represents, both white, black, male, female, young and old.
As for your committee meetings maybe you should take the lead. If your committee people aren;t effective then why aren't you doing something about it.

No offense, because I am black, but what is the percentage of blacks that she would represent in the district? Significantly less than that in the 4th and the 5th I would suppose. And for the record she did have blacks in the house supporting her candidacy.
As far as she being pro-life, so what, that one issue that you dont agree with her on. I'm sure 100% sure Lempke supported the medicaid cuts, the voter id bill, against stem cell research, and othe far reaching right wing legislation. But I'm sure thats the type of people you would vote for (ie Chris Koster).
