When presidential candidate Hillary Clinton comes to St. Louis on Sunday she was scheduled to be introduced by one of her best known supporters, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. But a threat to picket the event by the coalition seeking the mayor's removal from office may have put an end to that. Labels: Clinton, Francis_Slay, Mayor, Recall
It was former U.S. House Speaker Tip O'Neal who was best known for saying "All politics is local." Well, the prospect of stepping into a big steaming pile of Slay's local political woes seems to have forced the Clinton campaign to distance themselves from the beleaguered mayor.
State Representative Jamilah Nasheed and others supporting the recall effort contacted the Clinton campaign this week to inform them that they planned to picket Clinton's event at the Pageant theater if Slay would be introducing the New York senator.
According to Nasheed, a representative from the campaign notified her Wednesday evening that Slay suddenly had a "scheduling conflict" which will prevent him from introducing Senator Clinton.
In the past, Clinton has offered praise for Slay.
"Francis Slay is one of a new breed of mayors who are revitalizing their cities and setting an example for the rest of the country," Clinton said back in April. "I'm honored to have his support."
Still concerned by Slay's role in the Clinton campaign, the recallers have not yet decided whether to call off their protest entirely.
Clinton will be speaking at the Pageant, 6161 Delmar, this Sunday at 5:00 PM. This is Clinton's last trip here before the important Iowa primaries.

So are you just sitting there in your tiny apartment smoking pot and making this stuff up? Seriously, my roommate works for the campaign in question and he was laughing this morning reading this garbage.
Stop making up lies Mr. French. You may upset the wrong people while you are busy slandering your mayor.

What could Slay POSSIBLY have more important on Sunday than introducing the next President of the United States?

Actually, my house is pretty big. One of the advantages to living where the property values are still pretty low.
And no, my pot-smoking days are over.
Mr. or Ms. Anonymous, tell your nameless friend to contact Sean Thompson with the Clinton campaign. He's the one who called Rep. Nasheed.
Oh and when you say, "you may upset the wrong people," you're not suggesting I may be "Ron Browned" are you?

excellent work by Jamilah and co. i'm glad that the recallers are having some effect on frankie's smug comfortability. I hope that this will eventually lead to MO going for Obama.

Hillary is making a mistake. This could be a valuable "Sister Soljah" moment to reassure white people that she cannot be pushed around by uppity minority types. It would not b e on a par with executing a black inmate with an iq of 70, who was convicted in Arkansas after bloing 1/3 of his brain out---but she needs to...never mind...Bill probably told her to handle it this way. I cannot top his advice.

Perhaps the call for a National
Boycott of St. Louis over
the Mayor's recent actions
also played into the Clinton
decision.

what's interesting to me is that the so called "leaders" calling for an economic boycott actually hurt the african-americans they are supposed to represent
these so called "leaders" are very self-serving
the st. louis american is the worst offender of all.....what a joke of a newspaper - they now have about as much credibility as the st. louis argus

You're kidding right? Hillary has dealt with Rove, Rush, and virtually the entire Republican Party.
You think she's scared of Eric Vickers, Jamilah Nasheed, and Zachi Baruti, aka the gang that can't shoot straight?
Get real.

Mr. French, I do not know Mr. Brown so I do not know what you are implying. (Also, I apologize for the pot reference. I was trying to be playful and I hope I was not taken seriously.) I also have spoken with Mr. Thompson and he explained to me the actual conversation and you are playing very loose with the facts sir. I will call you personally to discuss your use of the Senator's name in your attacking your Mayor. You and I have met before and I am very disappointed it has reached this. Please if you need any information from any of the different campaigns contact their press secretary and not some random State Representative. Ms. Nashed may have meant well but this campaign stop has obviously been misconstrued and misused by some one with an apparent political axe to grind.
Thank you for your time.

wow, french not reporting the facts accurately and in their proper context? what a shocker.....he's almost as bad as chris king and that rag st. louis american newspaper
that paper couldn't hit water if it fell out of a boat

"Dealt with" is right. Another way to put it is "sold out to!"

Mrs. Bill Clinton will not be the president. If she wins the Dem primary we will have a republican president.
I wish Richardson or Biden were in play.

The majority of the city residents are going to turn their backs on that damn Slay when he is recalled!

Antonio your new site SUCKS and doesn't work.
Please get back to an easier format.
11/29/2007 6:26 PM
Antonio, your site overall sucks. It is extremely biased and full of outright lies. Can you fix that please?
Also, what happened to the Clinton staffer that was calling you out? I think their post were deleated. If so that makes my distrust of anything you say stronger.
11/30/2007 7:55 AM
The comment by that "staffer" is still right there at the top of the page (Actually, supposedly it was their roommate who worked for the campaign).
The only comments I ever delete are those that cross the line in slandering someone (Not me. I enjoy those hateful comments about me.)
