And now the exciting conclusion of our interview with affirmative action opponent Ward Connerly.
Connerly has come to Missouri to support a proposed amendment to our state constitution to "ban affirmative action programs designed to eliminate discrimination against, and improve opportunities for, women and minorities in public contracting, employment and education."

This guy is very confused.

He makes some good points about the need for personal responsibility in the black community. Bill Cosby is right about us falling into the trap of being constant victims. But I still think we are a long way from the point where banning affirmative action is a good thing.

Very interesting arguement on Ward Connerly's part! Although I have no problem with certain types of affirmative action, this issue could easily pass with his style of logic being used in the campaign to ban affirmative action statewide. His 'no preference approach' is a popular way of thinking and it may catch on especially in rural Missouri.
It seems affirmative action is viewed primary for African Americans and they make up only 12 per cent of the Missouri population.
It will be facinating to find out how the African Americans will fight his logic.

Why must African Americans fight logic? The logic is logical. Ward Connerly is an eloquent and wise man. Affirmative action is discrimination based upon classes we aren't supposed to discriminate against. Discrimination for aid in this day and age should be based upon merit and need. I truly believe blacks will be better off without affirmative action. Blacks are no better or worse than whites, hispanics or asians, and soon we will all be on equal footing in Missouri.

saw this in wikipedia--separate but equal?
On a CNN interview in December 2002 he said "Supporting segregation need not be racist. One can believe in segregation and believe in equality of the races," in response to a question regarding former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott.
He told the San Francisco Chronicle in September of 2003 "I don't care whether they are segregated or not . . . kids need to be learning, and I place more value on these kids getting educated than I do on whether we have some racial balancing or not." regarding whether his Proposition 54 could derail school integration efforts in California public schools[23].
Firelight Media interviewed Connerly for their documentary video "Arise: The Battle Over Affirmative Action" in which he comments; "If the Ku Klux Klan thinks that equality is right, God bless them," Connerly says. "Thank them for finally reaching the point where logic and reason are being applied, instead of hate."
Connerly issued a written statement clarifying his earlier remarks regarding a favorable tone towards the Ku Klux Klan's support for his Michigan campaign to outlaw affirmative action quotas and set-asides. Connerly's statement read, "Throughout my life I have made absolutely clear my disdain for the KKK. However, like all Americans, I hope that this group will move beyond its ugly history and agree that equality before the law is the ideal. If they or any group accepts equality for all people, I will be the first to welcome them

Let's talk a little bit about honesty. First, if asked, Wart has absolutely no data to substaniate his arguement for the need to eliminate affirmative action in this state. He cannot give one case of how civil rights has negatively impacted anyone in Missouri. Secondly, if anyone chose to do a little homework and investigate what percentage of the States dollars go to minority or women owned businesses or to check the university system to determine if there is truly a negative impact on the larger community the revelation would be...these programs don't amount to a pimple on an elephant's butt. Lastly, the true Afirmative Action program here is for Ward. His program collects about $2,000,000 of which he personally keeps $1.6 M (his foundation writes checks to him in this amount) every year.
Whart needs to go. He is just a pimp. He needs to be removed and sent somewhere else where people are truly stupid. Opps, that may put him back here in the big MO where people are either just stupid or are really racist.
By the way, where are all the good white Democrats. Why haven't they come out and oppossed Whart too?
