At yesterday's meeting of the Special Administrative Board of St. Louis Public Schools, community educator Bill Monroe grew frustrated after he was cut off by District CEO Rick Sullivan after Monroe used his alloted speaking time attempting to explain his proposal for a new vocational high school.
The Board had canceled a scheduled meeting with Monroe last week, saying existing city schools currently offer, or will eventually offer, equivalent training. But Monroe, the founder of the defunct Thurgood Marshall Academy, says this is not the case and he thinks the board has not thoroughly read his proposal.
Sullivan agreed to meet with Monroe soon to discuss his plan in detail.

Of course they didn't read it. They don't care what concerned city residents want to do to help the city's kids. The SAB members are only there as a favor to politicians that they will want to do them a favor one of these days. Why do you think no one wastes their time going to SAB meetings except a few diehards (bless you, Bill Monroe) and the administrators who are ordered to? Why bother?

Thank you PubDef.net for your coverage of last nights SAB meeting.
The current High School Accountability System in the St. Louis Public School system is failing our children.
Once again Thank you PubDef and my anticipated meeting with Rick Sullivan and Board should be conducted in open public view.
Thanks again and PLEASE PARENTS COME TO THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS AND GIVE SUPPORT TO A PROJECT THAT WILL SAVE THE LIVES OF OUR YOUTH-
Education + Skills Training=Success.

Some think showing up only legitimizes the BS. Talk is cheap and becoming boring. This imposed board will NEVER attempt to do what is really necessary to make a first class system (this doesn't necessarily mean the highest test scores) because they know they will never get enough money to do it. Or they just don't know how. Probably both.

Was any significant business other than Bill's presentation conducted?

wasn't Bill exposed as a fraud with his failed Thurgood Marshall school?
Last I heard, Bill is not trusted because his lack of any ability to run a school.
He's a nice man and I hope he stays involved with our floundering school system but I agree with the school baord that he should not be allowed to run a school.

Give the man a break. He tried to do something good with Thurgood Marshall, it didn't work, it was the first time he tried something like that. I'm sure he learned from it. You can't doubt his dedication, he's at every meeting of both school boards. We need black men leading the way to show education is important in this city, and he should be commended for his efforts. Sullivan should be ashamed of himself. He blows off city residents right and left--twice standing up the Parent Assembly and now this. Thanks a lot, State Board of Ed, Blunt, Slay and DESE.

Parents Please come to the School Board Meetings; also members of the elected board-Please come to the meetings. Please, the very lives of our children depend upon your participation.
Every meeting I attend gives me cause to worry about the current future of our children.
The meeting last night at Vashon had more St. Louis Public School Administrators and Employees in attendance than Parents and Community .
The Action Plan is incomplete and can not be completed without help from those of us in the St. Louis Community.
The full review of my appearance before the SAB Board on 10-16, can be reviewed at:

If the St. Louis Public School District truely wants to be the district of choice for St. Louis families-They must partner with those of us who present soloutions.
In FACT some of our children are DYING FOR SOLUTIONS......
Please attend Board Meetings
