KSDK Grossly Underestimates Rally

By Antonio D. French

Filed Monday, October 22, 2007 at 8:20 AM

In perhaps the most disgusting example of inaccurate, protective reporting ever witnessed, KSDK Channel 5 is reporting that only a few dozen people attended yesterday's rally to recall Mayor Francis Slay.

From KSDK.com:
Dozens of St. Louis residents gathered on the steps of City Hall Sunday, demanding a recall of Mayor Francis Slay.

The group of citizens, city and religious leaders say they support former Fire Chief Sherman George, and believe his demotion was the result of a racial divide in the mayor's office.
Watch PubDef's video from Sunday's event. We invite you to pause the video at the beginning and the end and do a head count for yourself. At its peak, there were easily 700 people in front of City Hall yesterday.

Perhaps KSDK's figure was provided by a certain bike-riding tipster?

The Post-Dispatch also seems to have a much lower number.

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why we need independent media.

Dozens is totally off base --- it was crowded. I've looked through my photos and I can say it was certainly hundreds. How many hundreds? I'm not going to speculate and trying to count heads in a photo is not easy.

Supposedly, a lot of the people came from outside the city. The flier for the recall gives a mailing address in North County. Is is so dull in STL County, that activists need to do their work in the city?

Most of Slay's money and support comes from the County (and County REPUBLICANS at that) that it is only fitting that other County people join in the recall effort.

Give money! Volunteer! It's time citizens reclaimed Room 200!!!

I saw more than a hundred. Maybe 125 or 130.

Unfortunately, all I saw were the usual suspects. If this is all that we can muster then as usual no one will take us seriously.

Thank you Mayor Slay for doing your job! These folks can protest and make this about race all day long, but at the end of the day, the Chief disobeyed his superior and should be demoted, as anyone else would be.

Unfortunately, for the Recall Slay forces, those County residents can't sign the petition.

Maybe they should move into the city!

When did Rep. Nasheed become my spokeswoman? She is not my State Rep and I would never vote for some one who never held a job prior to running for office. Also, I sure as hell did not vote to be represented by some nut in a Klan kostume, who is that guy? And what the hell is he supposed to be saying? I am embarrassed by these "community leaders".

Mr. French, why do you support these professional protestors?

Same 'ol faces. A bunch of phony preachers and blactivists.

Underestimated the numbers? Maybe all of the TV stations are racists too, huh. Might I suggest due to the pandering and appeasement this city has shown to towards blacks throughout the past half century, your definition of racism is distorted.

Of course, he "independently" picks up checks from these guys everyday.

Can you be counted as "independent media" while you are paid by the people you are covering?

Just curious.

What I hate is when certain bloggers steal your videos and put them on their site as their own. Thank God for your name being on it - but why dont these cut and paste blog sites get their own stories and stop taking yours?? Good job on the coverage and Thank You for always keeping us informed. You are now our only source for African American news coverage with the loss of all the talk shows on WGNU.

I was there I counted hundreds and signatures were gathered. Richard Callows (Barb Geisman's husband) rode a bike by to check the action out..The Post-Dispatch reporter never inviewed anyone and I spoke personally with her..Yes these are the voices of many a deceived voter and the people that see truths for what they are. Like I said Civic Progress. County $$$ ROB many a voter in St Louis from contributions to the Mayor and Alderpersons and on down. Notice they won't live in City Neighborhoods ...The Truth is out there and $$ can't stop real Progress and real voters for the City..Take back the City...Seek knowledge.... Petition today and see what City Hall does to suppress whites and blacks from having that Vital Voice in the Media and the Post-disgrace as some of us refer to its ramblings and deceit...Its your Life and City and you deserve the truth...Not a front page story about dogs how about Deceit.. Why do deceivers fear Antonio's reporting? KSDK why not cover the truth ? Those in the know KNOW.....

Antonio, a compliment to your success is the rapid response team which seems to have organized, and which automatically chimes in with their set of talking points whenever you hit a nerve.

It is a part of politics---and a sure sign you are doing effective work.

Who can come up with the best caption for the picture of Callow and Patterson?

Yea! Antonio is great! I am really a covert political spy!

Or I could be someone that was injured at work and am laid up for a few weeks and bored out of my mind and for entertainment I am screwing with you insane morons.

HA HA! I'll be here until liars and crappy con-artists like Antonio go away. (Or I can go back to work.)

Antonio is a cronnie for the school district. Everyone knows this site hates Slay and O'Brien. I was there and it was some of the fools that are always yelling at her. If Slay were smart he and O'Brien would team up and finish thw school district off.

Jeez, above, you are either a racist thug writing out of city hall, or just one of the most ignorant people I have ever heard. Are you actually advocating the destruction of the SLPS? If so, then I am wasting my time responding to your A)rantings or B)Bullshit. And beleive it or not, I attend the SLPS, and people like you are widely hated. But then, maybe that accomplishes your goal, huh?

10/22/2007 2:58 PM

And btw, how the hell does SLPS or Veronica O'Brien have anything to do with KSDK being a bunch of spineless pussies?

Patterson: If I have that cool helmet, I'll look really sexy...(thinking)but then I might attract the unwanted attention of Barb Geisman. Anyway, will it fit? I have a big head.

Callow: Steve, the benefits of this helmet extend well beyond the Geisman. It actually has a built in nutjob detector. Wait, I detect some in the distance!

Troupe yelling at Callow from a distance: Barb Geisman is a damn praying mantis! Down with Slay! (suddenly forgets what he is doing). Slay for Mayor 2009!

Hey Pub-Def:

WHo is making your crowd estimates? THe people who organize the VP Fair every year and report millions in attendence? Or the people who estimated that millions were going to jam the streets for the papal vist?

In both cases, the reported/anticipated crowds were much more modest that the official estimates.

I am a friend of Sherman George. I am white. And I was there.

If there were more than 200, I will kiss your patootie. You cant count inanimate objects like signs and tshirts as attendees..and even if you do, the numbers still dont add up.

You also cant count Rev BT Rice as more than one, although between his generous presence and his block long Llincoln SUV, they did occupy enough real estate to fit a hundred normal citizens.

FOr real, the crowd was about 200 - still impressive, but not the throngs that you might hope for in your wildest dreams.

Sign me as a friend of Sherman's who thinks its sad that he is gone, but also that if I were his boss I would have fired him too.

ofWho cares about Callow and Patterson. The issue remains that we need a Mayor that loves everyone in this City and not just the elite. This is the most overt racist administration that I can remember. I have been in politics for a long time and these people dont care about anything but knocking off capable black department heads andanyone that isn't gay or racist. By the way,Sherman was the last-definitely not the first!!@!!
