Does misdemeanor mean that jail time can't be a consequence?

No. Jail time is still a possibility. Not a likely one, but possible.

It is about time. Unfortunately, Smith's lawyers will probably run circles around this out state yahoo prosecutor.
When will the FEC bring charges against Smith? He still hasn't returned his illegal campaign contributions from is Cong. race and hasn't done a required quarterly filing since 2004. He is flirting with a federal felony on this one. Smith shouldn't be able to talk his way out of it. Can Hannaway go after him on it?

Mr. French you posted a piece about a minor incident with Smith but you forgot Floyd Irons. Who pulls your strings?
9/25/2007 10:56 PM
Stop changing the subject. This is about that incompetent Jeff Smith who also has the trait for being late for everything. Not Floyd Irons.
9/25/2007 11:14 PM
Just because Floyd Irons was not mentioned in this post does not mean that Antonio has not written about him lately. Check the archives.

Isn't Jeff Smith's father an attorney? He would seem to have unlimited legal assistance.

This is for anonymous
Get your facts straight. Smith never received illegal contributions from his congressional race. What he did receive were contributions for the general election which were promptly returned when he lost the primary. He has also filed every quarterly filing required by law

steverino,
You don't know what you are talking about. Go to the FEC reports. Every quarter he gets a new Failure to File Notice from the FEC. The campaign is almost $100,000 in debt and he still needs to give back al the illegal contributions he received - including money to Steve Brown who gave him more than the federal law allowed. I followed the link and saw the multiple "Notice of Failure to File" letters sent to Smith's campaign. Does the FEC send letters ad infinitem, or will it eventually charge Smith with an election violation?
