SLS Watch: Sodexho Quits!

By Antonio D. French

Filed Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 6:51 AM

Susan Turk, writing for the St. Louis Schools Watch, reports that the controversial facilities management company Sodexho USA has effectively quit.
In a letter dated September 4, 2007 Sodexho Vice President, Education Facilities Services Jerry Tuggle informs the superintendent that "Sodexho is terminating the Agreement, (Editor's note: meaning their contract) effective November 5, 2007." Two months notice and that's it.

They want all outstanding amounts paid immediately. They give the district the option of buying all Sodexho equipment and supplies used at district premises on or before the termination. date.

Why now? Have they finally gotten fed up with all the negative assessments of their services? Or are they angling for a renegotiated and more lucrative contract? Can the SLPS find another "provider" in less than 2 months? Can they bring custodial and maintenance services back in house in that amount of time? Stay tuned!

No Sodexho did not care about the negative comment they had a contract. What Sodexho is fed up with is not getting paid for services rendered. What business can survive when they have to get a lawyer and possibly go to court just to get paid the money that is owed to them. The product/service would actually cost the company more money than what it was originally worth. Remember businesses are in business to make money. A business will lose money if they have to take a client to court to get their money for a service or product they provided. Even though services and quality of services by Sodexho were severely lacking. I have experience this with other vendors who are on a cash only basis with the district and its employees. I would go ahead and buy what I needed, turn in the receipts, and then six months later I may get paid. During the past year I have yet to be paid for supplies that I bought for students to use in school.

Too funny!

But isn’t that how the SLPS got into the financial mess it is currently in? Better get Hoss, Johnboy, and Bubba out there with their hammers and duct tape to start fixin the schools. Get MaryLou, MaryBeth, and Emily in the cafeteria to start fixin the nacho n cheese for the youngins.

At least this might provide some definition for what Rick Sullivan's and Diana Bourisaw's responsibilities are.

Sullivan is 1. Not even a member of the sab until Blunt reappoints him? 2. still a member, ceo, and president of the board? 3. a ceo who will negotiate a solution? 4. a ceo who will demand that Bourisaw negotiate a solution?

trying to fight my way out of this vaccuum----one reporter told me that Bray has not taken a stand yet for or against Sullivan.

The reporter said that the governor's office has to take action by September 19th--they will check on Sullivan's status at that time.

Just a matter of me being more patient.
