Yesterday evening, Multimedia KSDK, Inc. filed a complaint with YouTube about our posting of a video contrasting a September 13 story by reporter Mike Owens which ended with a promise to air a tape of an allegedly crooked real estate seller "saying he makes regular payments of cash to the local alderman" with their September 14 follow-up story that makes no mention of the allegation.

Obviously they are threatened by Antonio French's superior reporting of the issues, especially since he has no salary.

If the shoe was on the other foot, Channel 5 would be hiding in the bushes, Antonio, waiting to do an ambush interview. Perhaps you should do the same. I think you should have a "Question for Channel 5" competition.

By the way, if Channel 5 ever decides to tell us why it never reported the name of the Alderman getting the payoff, PubDef will have to post it here for me to see. I have turned Channel 5 off.

Channel 5 is the absolute worst reflection of St. Louis. The city they portray doesn't even resemble the real St. Louis. Channel 5, the Post-Dispatch, and the rest of them could just cease to exist and I wouldn't get a damn.

Obviously, Mike Owens did not have accurant information and backed off.
He should go on air and apolize because he has left it in the minds of people that some African American alderman is corrupt and dirty. People will still believe this because hey, KSDK reported it.
I will never turn my television to Channel 5 again until they address this allegation, which I am sure I will learn from Def Pub if they do.
This entire Missouri region has been for a very long time under serious demonic control and attack.

Antonio don't you understand that you can't lift your news story from another station or paper. As I have said before you really can't just print what you want. New precedent is being set everyday regarding poorly run blogs. Believe it or not half the junk the Post writes can be called to questions. Besides isn't there a such thing as ethics?

The story wasn't lifted. The failure to follow up is completely different than KSDK's story.

This is the biggest bull I have ever heard. Channel 5 is a bully and a lazy bully at that. They have one of the worst websites in the city. Trying to get any information off there is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. They should feel lucky that you even mentioned them!

You'll want to ambush Mike Owens (or ANY on air 5er) and ask them to describe what "Fair Use" means. Chances are they don't know what a gallon of milk costs and can't list four of the ten commandments either.

The 'positive spin' does usually seem to negate at least some truth.
What do they report on SLPS? What did they report on Blairmont? St Louis' news channel... IN HD (in case you missed the biggest news of the century)! And I felt that even before they skunked the best news source in St Louis.
Does ethics mean 'look the other way' these days?

This is torture. Youtube is a POS. I see that they still haven't put back your 200 plus videos that they deleted without even so much as giving you the time of day.

Please, please, please tell me why!? Why do you continue to host with youtube?
Please, take a note from Lofistl.com and other videobloggers and use a reputeable host that actually respects your rights like blip.tv. There is no future in youtube. :(
I'm struggling to understand why you would continue to user them. It makes no sense.
I realize youtube can get your videos in front of eyeballs, but there's NO reason to use them soley for hosting.
What I see others such as Ask A Ninja and Wallstrip doing (two of the top vlogs in terms of traffic) is I see them running their primary vlog using blip.tv or self hosting and then posting only heavily branded teaser clips to youtube.
The bottom line is this, youtube is using you, so use youtube just as strategically as they use you. Use it for marketing.
Run your videoblog off blip.tv. It does automatic transcoding and cross posting of posts to your blog and can provide QT, Flash and other formats for syndication to iTunes, Miro, Fireant and others.
FYI, I'm one of the founders of Mefeedia. I normally wouldn't comment but I see these cases of media companies abusing the DMCA and Youtube throwing their users content out with the morning trash time and again.
Youtube is a monoculture, 10 years from now none of this original revolution in video will exist. When Brewster McKahle of Archive.org talks of a "digital darkage" youtube is EXACTLY the type of thing he's talking about.
Not only will youtube never give it's users a fair shake on making money off their videos (they have 1.6 billion to pay off), but as soon as hosting people's archive of videos doesn't suit them anymore they'll delete them. Their TOS states as much.
At the very least sites like blip allow you to download and archive your clips to your own server. I believe they still allow you to cross post to archive.org which is archival.
