By Antonio D. French

Filed Friday, September 21, 2007 at 8:43 AM

Last night at a special committee meeting, the four members of the elected St. Louis Board of Education who were present voted unanimously in favor of a resolution of support for Fire Chief Sherman George who is facing disciplinary action from Mayor Francis Slay.

Board members Peter Downs, David Jackson, Donna Jones and Bill Purdy passed the following resolution asking Slay to "refrain from micro-managing the fire department and allow Chief Sherman George to do his job without interference":
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS IN SUPPORT OF FIRE CHIEF SHERMAN GEORGE

WHERE AS, St. Louis Board of Education recognizes and salutes the outstanding leadership and performance of Fire Chief Sherman George.

WHERE AS, Chief Sherman George and members of his staff have diligently worked in partnership with the St. Louis Board of Education in providing students the opportunity to shadow city firefighters.

WHERE AS, Chief Sherman George was instrumental in creating an educational partnership with the Fire Department and the St. Louis Public Schools for the benefit of city high school students.

WHERE AS, Chief Sherman George is highly recognized within his profession and was selected to help identify a new Fire Chief for the City of Atlanta Georgia.

WHERE AS, Chief Sherman George is active in the St. Louis Community and attends many civic functions.

WHERE AS, Chief Sherman George was appointed to the position of Fire Chief by former Mayor Clarence Harmon.

WHERE AS, Chief Sherman George and members of his department have faithfully participated in Career Day programs for city youth at the annual Career Day Fair held at the convention center.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS, AS FOLLOWS:

The Board of Education hereby salutes and commends Chief Sherman George for his professionalism, knowledge and leadership within the fire department.

The Board of Education hereby strongly urges that Mayor Frances [sic] Slay and members of his staff refrain from micro-managing the fire department and allow Chief Sherman George to do his job without interference.

THIS RESOLUTION shall be dated September 20, 2007 and shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

Did Purdy stop you from making a posting for Irons? I guess he knows it is time for Irons to tell on him. White house on Sarah street.

We did post something on Irons in the Briefs posting. It's not like that's an underreported story. It's everywhere.

Personally, I'm not clear on Irons' qualifications for such celebrity status. He's like our town's O.J.

Why do St. Charles folks (i.e. TV news audiences) care so much about Floyd Irons?

I guess the only reason I care about him at all is that he seems to have Gaines' ear at times..

Maybe not, but it seems that way to me.

I agree with the first posting. You made Rick Sullivan news. Admit it French you are protecting people.
They can't hide much longer.

French is no different than the Post. French is owned by those that represent Irons and the Post is owned by those that run the town. At least they are getting paid and are working for it.
Gaines and Sullivan have become good friends with Irons.

Protecting Irons? Who else reported as much as I did on the mysterious murder of Tim Bacon, the kid who was preparing to sue Irons and SLPS?

Just go back inside your hole, Mr. Anonymous.

I don't follow high school basketball and I don't care much about Floyd Irons.

SLPS elected school board knows too well the disastrous results of Slay's meddling in their affairs much like Slay is trying to usurp Chief Sherman George's authority to run the fire department as authorized by the city charter!

Last time I checked these people were originally intended to be a school board, not a political opinion panel. I guess they've just run out of anything else to do and decided to take advantage of their time in the spotlight.

Koo Whee Baby !!!

Did the deposed school board just pass a resolution supporting the fire chief? This is relevant to the education of the children how? Is anyone still wondering why the state deposed them?

It's about trying to get a certain group of voters behind the school board and to show how oppressed they are. They are just using the current issue to try and political favor.

They should stick to running the schools...oh wait, they tried that and failed.

I bet O'Brien stayed out of this one. If so the Resolution has no teeth.

The above was well said. However you forgot Bill Purdy thinks he is the political opinion of St. Louis. That old man is a joke and I hope MSHSAA nails him real soon.

When will the Elected School Board realize that they are no longer in control? The SAB is now in control to try and motivate the students.

The ESB has just done something far worse than endorsing Chief George. The ESB have just told every student in the City that tests are not important. This is at a time when the City students need to perform well on the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) Test. Politicians don’t care what the Elected Board says that is why they put in a SAB to get the students to perform on the MAP test. The ESB is still acting like a bunch of sore losers because the state stepped in. So what if Mayor Slay micro manages. If the ESB doesn’t like Slay then remove him from office at the next election. But never send a body of students a message that a test isn’t important.

BTW who cares about Irons that is on another post.

The "Elected School Board" didn't do it. 4 of the 7 did. Don't lump the other 3 in there. Interesting, same 4 support this as supported the Lizz Brown ad fiasco.

Does it really matter whether it was four or seven? The fact that “fab four” who was “suppose to change for the better education” in SLPS actually did just the opposite.

Actually I’ll send my kids to SLPS and if they don’t pass a test I will say it was to hard and go to court saying the test is racist. I will get my diploma in a settlement out of court and money from SLPS to send my kids to college. Hey maybe this isn’t such a bad idea afterall.

Anony 9/22/2007 8:39 PM, what does the MSHSAA have to do with anything? Just curious. Wondering what an athletics association could do to a School Board member, elected or appointed.

Bill Purdy at it again. Talking about micromanaging when he tells Bourisaw who to hire and who to fire. He told her she could not meet with the elected board unless he was present. He still has meetings with her and Sullivan is too stupid to do anything/
Now don't you think micromanaging is all the resolutions that you present? Who are you to tell Slay what to do.
What about the Floyd Irons and Creg Williams resolutions?
Man you are a joke and black folks should come drag you out of your house with sticks and bats.

"mysterious murder of Tim Bacon, the kid who was preparing to sue Irons and SLPS?"

When was this kid murderered?

Is this the same kid that went before the Lesbian Ex- Presiding Family Court Judge, Susan Block, where Irons was let off the hook.

Wasn't some sort of improper teacher student sexual contact invoved with Irons and the male highschool student?

This kid was planning on suing? If this is the same kid, does anyone have to wonder why he was murdered? Think Irons was the only adult male that young man was going to talk about?

Also concerning those tests.

If every fire fighter were to be receive a copy of their tests back to review the answers they supposedly missed. They will be very suprised to learn that test answers were changed, and they did not do all that bad on the tests.

Don't believe me? Review those missed (incorrect answers).

I am 100% certain that the St. Louis City Human Resources Director was very much involved.

I seriously hope that the fire fighters are willing to fight to check this out and see if I am just talking crazy.

Someone needs to ask Kjoe why "does anyone have to wonder why he {Tim Bacon} was murdered?"

He has finally stopped using that tragic event in every one of his posts.

Boy, Anony 9/23/2007 7:28 PM I hope that you can come up with a better reason for all of these problems in the Fire Houses. Your excuse is about the most moronic thing that I have read on PUBDEF blogs.

Good for Kojoe to be concerned about a child that was murdered and being covered up. This kid was arrested by Irons gay brother that also set up Father Nutt.
The is no statue of limitation on murder.

Now we know why the state has taken control of the district!

The school board needs to focus on their own problems!

Not all the problems, just those tests that proved for those stirring up iniquity that Chief is stupid for approving the test and the Black firefighters are illiterate. (Not so actually, because of deception being the game here).

Have anyone asked themselves by the way, how did nine hundred and some odd number flunk the test when only eight hundred and some odd number total took the test.

These ones can't even add, not so, however, it is just that they are beginning to be entrapped in their own little web they've spun for the chief and Black firefighters.

Instead of claiming the accusation to be moronic, check it out and see if it is so moronic.

Obviously the poster who goes by Trouble COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THAT KID. NOR DID THE LESBIAN RETIRED JUDGE, NOW ATTORNEY, SUSAN BLOCK OR ANY OTHER AUTHORITY FIGURE MAKING THE DECISIONS CONCERNING THAT CASE.

They all have Tim Beacon's blood on their hands, and are foolish to think that they will get away. You can get by for a while, but you can't escape God's punishment, but in this case I am sure at some point the law will also catch up with these ones.

I have enough compassion not to use a tragic event to make political hay. Kjoe, your name was brought up because you mentioned Mr. Bacon in just about every post last year. Even you were led to the conclusion that the powers that be were not involved.

I will stand before GOD in due time and will have no fear.

If YOU, anony 9/24/2007 2:02 PM, are truly concerned about Mr. Bacons tragic end... go and do something nice for his family.

If you are still making the premise that department heads at City Hall are changing correct answers to make some fire fighters look bad... Well, that would be VERY easy to prove. So, PROVE it.

What?

I was led to no such conclusion that they were or that they were not. I maintain that the media were unbelievably timid in demanding answers.

How is wanting to know the truth about a murder using a tragic event to make political hay?
