Aldermen Unanimously Support Mokwa

By Antonio D. French

Filed Friday, September 21, 2007 at 2:25 PM

Crime may have shot up 20% last year, at least $40,000 in cash may have disappeared from the police vault, the number of rapes may have been systematically underreported, the Police Officers Association may be about to state they have "no confidence" in his leadership, he may have officers who steal and resale baseball tickets, and rookie cops may be killed after being left to patrol the roughest parts of town on their own, but the aldermen of the City of St. Louis still have total confidence in Police Chief Joe Mokwa.

The Board unanimously passed a resolution at their morning meeting today stating their support for Mokwa. Leading the way was the alderman from one of the most crime-ridden parts of the city, Freeman Bosley, Sr. (3rd Ward).

From Political Fix:
Sure, the police officers want more money, Bosley said, but so do we all. The police motto is to protect and serve and sometimes, Bosley remarked in his raspy voice, that means doing some service for free.

Bosley also did not blame Mokwa or the department for crime — “Whenever we’ve called for help, you’ve been there.”

Besides, Bosley said, crime has been around since biblical times.

“Cain slew Abel,” Bosley reminded the chamber.

“Whenever you have more than three people, there is going to be crime,” Bosley said.
Not even aldermen who in the past have publicly challenged Mokwa to do more to address crime in north St. Louis voted against the resolution today.

By the way, no such resolution has been introduced to show support for Fire Chief Sherman George, whose department, in comparison, is squeaky clean. And if it were, it would not likely pass unanimously.

For all you visitors, welcome to Crazy Town.

Call it crazy town, but it's also one of the wierdest, coolest places around.

Interesting side note however, Salon sports writer King Kaufman has left St. Louis and moved back to California.

Does anyone know why King left the 'Lou? I was hoping to read some sort of farewell message from him somewhere, but couldn't find a thing.

Why do some people inspire confidence? Here's what Sumner High School alum Arther Ashe said:

"Regardless of how you feel inside, always try to look like a winner. Even if you are behind, a sustained look of control and confidence can give you a mental edge that results in victory.”

The St. Louis City Board of Aldermen fear the police just like the citizens do. They are afraid to speak out against Chief Mokwa because there could be a backlash in the form of receiving less police services.

In addition, the Black Aldermen in particular do not want to piss off the police chief, because some of his police officer subordinates may pop a rubberband on them during a routine traffic stop and remind them that they are black people in St. Louis.

The Board of Aldermen as a whole does not worry about the Fire Chief because firefighters must do their job in an all or nothing manner, or else people get hurt/die as well as the firefighters. Firefighters can't purposely hurt people on a fire scene either and keep their job without repercussions.

Remember people are almost always happy to see the firefighters coming, but the same is not necessarily true with police officers.

PEOPLE KNOW THAT FIREFIGHTERS FIND'EM HOT AND LEAV'EM WET! THEY KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THEIR HOSE!

For police officers that have read this, don't get mad at firefighters. We chose to be firefighters, and you chose to be police officers. We still love you, and we still work well together!

Hate the Players, Not the Game!

If the Board of Alderman made such a decision to support the Chief of Police, then how simple would it have been to tie in the upcoming attempt to obtain more money for the police department to the acceptance of Civilian Oversight-giving the recent scandels and delay of notifying the public for fear of delaying the $$$$ request to the voters....

Mokwa supports the officers in removing the residency requirement, an issue most cops will tell you has been the most important thing on their radar screen over the last 10 years. He does it and within a year they'll vote "no confidence" on him. Hilarious! Wake up. You can't make these guys happy.

the fire department squeaky clean? what city are you living in.

I guess its pretty easy to make statements like that when you are anti-police, regardless of the situation or circumstances to anything you report about them.

Thank god the city does not have complete control of the department, they have thoroughly messed up everything they have had control over.

Mokwa should be fired.

George should have already been fired.

Neither of the departments these men command are performing at their best. They are both poor leaders and should be replaced immediately.

Maybe the fools on the school board should do a Resolution for Mokwa. One thing for sure is that Mokwa would be smart enough not to take it.

If the police board was worth something then you would not need a civilian review board.

Well it's a fact that the Citizens of the City of St. Louis need and deserve a Citizens Independant Oversight of the St. Louis Police Department.

Do not allow Mayort Slay and his St. Louis Public School destroyer's to push into the face of citizens a $$$$$$ demand for the Police Department without full and Independant Citizen Oversight.

The primary reason that the Police Board did'nt allow the news of the missing money from evidence was not to Alarm you into NOT supporting this $$$$$$$ coming up around February-

And remember Mr. J.Q.Citizen , you can't even speak to this Board in Public Sessions-

And this shit happened on Brother Bosley's Watch.

Let's Fight This People

Can anyone tell me when the next St. Louis Police Board Meeting is and what time ?

9/23/2007 12:31 AM

Independent oversight does not exist while the board of police commissioners does as well. Civilian review only had the authority to make recommendations to the board of police commissioners. Why would they listen to a board when they don't even listen to the mayor when he recommended the board wait to vote on residency? The board of police commissioners needs to be abolished and the police need to be under the direct control of the mayor.

You are a moron. It has been proven that all of the stories you are citing had no more proof than one source and that was the KC crazy that wrote his "study" declaring St. Louis soooo bad.
If you look at the federal study which rates by per capita and area size St. Louis rates around 15th. Not great but not the MOST dangerous by any account.

Now, go put your head in the oven.

At any rate the city did not do well when it came to rape cases. It was terrible to hide and not protect women that had been raped. Mokwa got more than a slap on the hand. Don't forget these were mostly black women. Where are the 100 black women in town?

fLOYD IRONS NEEDS OUR HELP.

He asked that everyone in the school district send letters to federal Judge Webber telling him what a great assest he has been to the SLPS family.
Please send your letters so they can be considered before he goes to jail.

Thank goodness his reign of corruption is over.

He is an embarrassment to St. Louis and a disease to our kids. I am very happy he is no longer there to hurt our kids.
