The region's political players came together last night for what has become one of the largest annual events in St. Louis politics. License Collector Mike McMillan played the role of "cash collector" once again as the region's elite literally lined up to drop off their $500 and $1,000 contributions to McMillan's future endeavors. Labels: Events, Mike_McMillan
Among those spotted: County Executive Charlie Dooley, East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks, Democratic State Senators Maida Coleman and Chris Koster, announced Attorney General candidates Jeff Harris and Margaret Donnelly, Lt. Gov. candidate Sam Page, Comptroller Darlene Green, President of the Board of Aldermen Lewis Reed and most of the city's aldermen, nearly all of St. Louis' state legislative delegation, committeepeople, citywide elected officials, and many, many others.

Those last two comments are soon to be deleted...please.
However, what about McMillan's family background?
Does he have elected official parents or cousins, aunts, uncles, etc?
Reason for the question: Did you see the story in the Journal about all the family connections for St. Louis elected officials.
But McMillan seems to have risen politically without all the family ties. Is this true, or is he part of the political family structure of STL?

McMillan's connection has unforunately died - Senator Jet Banks. He's the reason McMillan ever got to be a committeeman or the 19th Ward Alderman. Having Banks clear the way for you was better than having connected relatives.

I hear he didn't graduate college.

I went to grade school and SLU with Mike McMillan. He definitely graduated from college with a degree in Political Science/African American Studies. Mike did not have anyone in his family that was in politics but his great uncle, C.W. Gates, was very involved in civic affairs. He was the first African American appointed to the Police Board and was a very successful businessman before he retired.
Banks definitely helped Mike but so did alot of other people.

In your statement you said "nearly all of St. Louis'State legislative
delegation" was in attendence. If Harry Kennedy was there,it was because he got a free ticket (he never attends anything unless its free or comped by a Lobbyist) If he did attend did he bring his "friend/assistant" Jason?
Inquiring minds would like to know!

Mike McMillan's mother got special treatment in the St. Louis Public Schools under Roberti. While others in her classification lost their positions, she was placed in Human Resources in a plumb job.

I wonder if McMillian took that ice sculpture and gave it to the homeless people sleeping in the park after last night's shindig?
If the "best is yet to come" why is STL ranked #1 in crime? Why are STL schools in the crapper? Why are businesses actually leaving the city and residents moving out of established neighborhoods? Why does North City look like Baghdad? Why does STL have a 1% earnings tax?
Gimme a %#@&%* break!
Moreover, b/c Slay struck a deal w/ McMillian so he could have a straight shot at the 2008 mayoral race w/out major interference, it goes to show you that STL is just...politics as usual.
It's a real @#$%* shame.

I live in McMillan's old ward in North St. Louis and it doesn't look like Baghdad. Some of us actually take pride in our community and are not moving out of established neighborhoods. Some people in this City have an inferioirity complex and always want to complain about what isn't right. If things are so bad.....move. There is no on stopping you. We have new housing, schools, stores and pride in where we live. We still have problems but things are way better after McMillan finished being my Alderman than before. We didn't have new anything before that.
And who wants an old ice sculpture? That was arrogant and ignorant.
What is anybody going to do with that?
What would someone expect the man to say, "the worst is yet to come. St louis is going to hell!" The City looks better than it has in my area in my lifetime. We actually had a bad homeless problem over here that McMillan worked hard to fix that is better but not perfect now. And for the record, there is no Mayor's race in 2008 but feel free to vote for it when you go to the polls next year.

right the city is going to hell. no black people to speak up.
8/10/2007 9:37 AM
Actually some areas of the North Side are starting to resemble St. Peters, not Baghdad.
8/10/2007 10:57 AM
You mean some politicians in North St. Louis are starting to sound like Republicans from St.Peters
while their constiuents' homes are
being bought up by Paul McKee.
8/10/2007 4:49 PM
No that isn't what I mean. I mean the areas are looking like St. Peters because our zoning codes are from 1947. If our zoning was different then Paul McKee would be less of an issue.
