Flying back from New York yesterday, I picked up the latest issue of Fast Company magazine. I was searching for the beginning of the cover story on "Al Gore's $100 Million Makeover" (good read, by the way) when I stumbled upon the magazine's listing of the 30 Fastest Cities in the World. Labels: Awards
Near the center of the list is another, less flattering list: the 5 Slowest Cities.
You guessed it! Placed above (or below, depending on your perspective) New Orleans, Detroit and Havana, and just below Budapest, is our own St. Louis.
From Fast Company:St. Louis, Missouri — Too normal for its own good. It ranks dead last on CityVitals' "Weirdness Index," a measure of passion and engagement.

This is what you get when you run Baton Bob out of town.

I blame that damn Slay for ruining city schools with his meddling which factors into the city's downward spiral!

I read that article, too, and I couldn't help but think that many people in St. Louis (especially the South County region) would take "too normal for their own good" as a compliment. I wasn't surprised to see St. Louis hit that list; it was written by people from NYC.

Whoever decided we're not weird enough doesn't read some of the comments on this blog.

There should be no surprise at the low listing, since St. Louis has been going downhill for decades. Mayor Slay is no more to blame for its decline than previous mayors going back to the 1960s. Nor is it fair to blame it on the writers being from NYC.

any weirdness index is clearly the construct of an Austin, Texas resident. My advice to concerned citizens - don't mess with Texas.
I now I thought this city didn't have anything going on until I started writing my blog. Now I don't have enough time to do everything. You just have to look a little closer sometimes.

Why haven't Chuck Berry, Ike Turner and Sheryl Crow sprung to the defense of their beloved city?
