McCaskill Happy to See Gonzales Go [Updated with Video]

By Gabe Bullard

Filed Monday, August 27, 2007 at 12:36 PM

Not long after the news of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ resignation broke, Senator Claire McCaskill released a statement praising Gonzales' decision to leave.

"It was clear to me from the start that Attorney General Gonzales had been part of a political scheme and consequently should have been quickly removed from his position," says McCaskill.

"The delay is another failure of leadership and display of incompetence by the Bush Administration."

I'm glad McCaskill's glad. Now it's time for the Senator to participate in impeachment proceedings against Cheney first, then Shrub. Time to REPEAL ALL THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL POWER GRABS BY SHRUB SUCH AS PATRIOT, MILITARY COMMISSIONS, NSPD/HSPD 20 & 51, EXECUTIVE SIGNING STATEMENTS AND EXECUTIVE ORDERS. TIME TO BRING BACK CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT, OTHERWISE TIME TO IMPEACH MCCASKILL. TALK IS CHEAP. TIME TO RESTORE THE ENTIRE BILL OF RIGHTS.

I thought chertoff might be the new guy---I was looking forward to fireworks trying to get him confirmed---not gonna happen I guess. Oh well---still got the cardinals and the Rams for entertainment.

"Between 1994 and 1996, Chertoff was counsel to the GOP Whitewater committee investigating the business dealings of President Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton, who is now New York's junior senator and a candidate for president of the United States.

An independent counsel later determined that the Whitewater investigation did not uncover sufficient evidence to warrant any criminal charges against the Clintons.

As a senator, Mrs. Clinton cast the only vote against Chertoff when he was nominated for the appeals court in 2003."

UPDATE: A Senate aide with close connections to the Department of Justice tells CNN's Dana Bash Chertoff will not be the president's choice to replace Gonzales.
