RUMOR: Koster Going Blue?

By Antonio D. French

Filed Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 5:42 PM

BREAKING NEWS

Rumor has it that State Senator Chris Koster (R-Harrisonville) will announce this week that he's leaving the Republican Party to become a Democrat.

Koster, who already has $644,000 in the bank, according to his last campaign finance report, is also expected to announce that he will be running for Attorney General on the Democratic ticket.

Readers will recall PubDef.net reported spotting Koster at the state senate campaign kick-off of Democrat Rodney Hubbard earlier this month. If true, Koster's crossover could have far-reaching implications in the 2008 races.

Developing...

UPDATE @ 9:18 p.m. — Reactions to Koster's rumored defection are already coming in. Democrat Jeff Harris, the Columbia State Rep who is also running for Attorney General, tells PubDef.net he welcomes Koster to the Democratic primary contest.

"We have been planning to run against Chris Koster-- the Republican -- since day one in this campaign," said Harris. "And I am STILL running against Chris Koster THE Republican, only now it’s in the Democratic Primary."

"I am running AS a Democrat because I AM a Democrat -- always have been and always will be."

And Democrats are supposed to trust this guy? Did he switch as part of a deal to help Catherine Hanaway win the Atty General seat?

Jeff Harris is obviously worried, about Koster winning the nomination for the AGs seat and rightfully so. Koster would have easily beaten Hanaway on the republican ticket. The thing about it is in Missouri switching parties does not fly (ie Leslie Farr). The other thing is we know Hubbard will support him, but with Jeff Smith girlfriend doing the press for Koster doesnt that put him in a pretty precarious situation and how does the Jay Nixon Campaign use this to their benefit? All I can say is WOW!!!! 2008 looks like it will be a real fire cracker in Missouri. 2 more races I'm waiting to see officially get started Days vs Clay and Tim Green vs Jaunita Head-Walton.

What a joke this guy is. Would he switch back to the GOP if 2012 looked like a Republican year? I don't trust him to fight for what I'm interested in like Jeff Harris has. Koster has been with Blunt on the Medicaid cuts and MOHELA. He'll be a Democrat in name only.

Juanita Head-Walton is one fine State Representative.

Tim Green won't look better than her, that's for sure!
