U.S Senator and recently declared candidate for the 2008 Republican Presidential Nomination Fred Thompson will be in Missouri this Friday to speak at the Missouri Bankers Association’s 117th Annual Convention in Osage Beach, MO.
Thompson will deliver the closing keynote speech of the event.
Thanks to fellow Missouri blogger John Combest for the links. Check out the Convention's Brochure for yourself here.

What a colossal waste of time, money, and resources! Is crap like Freddy's speaker fee why these idiot bankers charge all these high-a$$ inexplicable extraneous account maintenance fees? Other than having a bank account and possibly having had a role as a bank employee in some two-minute television scene listed in his filmography, what banking information can this 3rd shlf actor offer real BANKERS that actually advances BANKING industry fortunes through better pratices, tighter standards, and beneficial technology?
I don't know who's dropping the ball harder here - Missouri Bankers or the Missouri Bureau of Tourism. I had a pretty realistic idea that the Sainted Lunacy of the Red State of misery was not quite that glittering star-magnet for the caliber of platinum celebri-turd sightings commonly seen in Chicago, particularly during these tricky pre-2008 election times. But, come on! Fred Thompson?!!! It's not just ridiculous - IT'S ALARMING!!!!

Well Penny, to play Devil's Advocate, the man IS a United States Senator and is considered a potential contender for the 2008 Republical presidential nomination. Acting career aside, those are pretty solid credentials.

Dan, sweety, my aunt lived in Gatlinburg TN during this pinhead's reign of senatoral terror. Though a lifelong DNC supporter, my aunt actually voted for Thompson, impressed with his stupid red truck schtick. She watched as beneficial programs for Tennessee were cut, the TVA nearly went bankrupt, the state fell under EPA scruptiny for pollution related to coal processing, state health standards declined, and the miners took cuts in their pay and benefits that qualified them fro welfare that his legislative stances made nearly unavailable. He was very integral to the current state of impoverishment suffered by the Volunteer State to this day. The TVA is still working to recover. So, please appreciate my distrust and dispain for this pompous low-rung tool. The guy is known as having been the LAZIEST SENATOR EVER! He went from defeat at re-election to waging war against American little people by lobbying the House and the Senate for deregulation and tax breaks for corporations and industries. So far as I can tell, Fred Thompson's only noteworthy preparation for the Presidency is taking the role of Grant in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I think when considering his scandalous K Street tethers and his lacluster senatoral stint, this guy will most certainly make an excellent genocidal, land-grabbing looting plunderer who will continue to rape the bottom 95% of Americans from the Oval Office.
I would only consider Fred Thompson's credentials to be stellar and solid enough to qualify him for the Office of President of the United States of America if George W. Bush were the only available opponent in the race. Fortunately for America, that is not the case. Despite the demeaning damage the Office of President has horrifically suffered at the hands of the Bush43 Administration, the Presidency of the United States of America is still not an event in the Special Olympics. Dan, I have more respect for the Office than to consider sullying it further by filling it with some 2nd shelf acting hack with Thompson's political history.

I'm not debating the man's merits as a person or a politician, I'm pointing out that his status AS a well known politician and US Senator make him an attendance-booster of a keynote speaker.
The closing keynote has very little influence on the actual meat of a conference itself, it's a publicity draw. He is certainly that.
