By Antonio D. French

Filed Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 9:02 PM

BREAKING NEWS

Dr. Diana Bourisaw has issued the following statement regarding tonight's decision by Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan to deny SLPS' request for a restraining order.

"I am here for the children in the St. Louis Public School system. We owe our students stability. I will stay and continue to work regardless of the governance structure."

Rick Sullivan told Fox 2 News today that Bourisaw will remain superintendent.

So really, what the elected Board would have done will continue to be done, but Slay/Sullivan will suddenly take credit for it? Of course Sullivan's reign will be calmer, he won't have to deal with intentional troublemakers on his board.

I read a bunch of other stuff on Callahan.

SLPS has about as fair a judge as they could hope for.

Yes she is staying and will be working at Vashon. She is moving to the Vashon area and wants to now live around black people.

He didn't say. Furthermore, it is probably improper for him to have made any statement about what the three-member board would or would not do, before the board has even met.

Veronica must be croaking that Sullivan says Bourisaw will stay. He probably saw her behavior on various videos and decided anyone who can perform with such a rude, crude woman harassing her must be pretty super.

Any man with an iota of intelligence and common sense can see which woman is sane and rational.

Bourisaw has announced to everyone that Sullivan told her she was staying. Have you all noticed that all Bourisaw is talking about is her staying and Bourisaw equals stability. The only thing this woman has ever brought to a district is trouble. If you read Kent Kings letter to her he even dais she was not right.
If she cares about the children why doesn't she move on and let the new board start with a fresh slate.

So now Bourisaw is on TV saying she will follow Sullivan's leadership. How could he trust her. She has made it clear that she supports Purdy and Downs. Where is the change. She just used the taxpayer money to say Purdy was in charge and now she is saying Sullivan is in charge. I am confused. Maybe Donald Duck is in charge.

Name calling Veronica. Is it about Veronica? She is not in charge. Besides Sullivan said Veronica was crazy so why would he listen to her?

Ms. Bourisaw has obviously woken up and smelled the coffee. As long as she intends to stay employed she had better face reality. And reality is that the three person board is her boss as of midnight. Yeah, she could swear her loyalty to Downs & Purdy, but that would just land her in the unemployment line.

Ms. Bourisaw, admittedly, has had a tough row to hoe since coming on board. Veronica hires her, then turns on her with a vengence. Then she has to deal with Purdy, Downs and the ever-wackier Donna Jones. This bunch displayed nothing but vitriol, negativity, and anger, turning in the end to the same tactics they railed against when they ran for the board: arrogance, no-bid contracts, cronyism. Through it all Ms. Bourisaw seemed to keep her cool and avoid saying incredibly stupid things that would haunt her later. And, remarkably, she alone seemed to stay focused on the children (well, Fowler did too).

With any luck, Bourisaw, Sullivan, and the other new Boardies will learn to play nicely together, a lesson that they can take straight to SLPS kindergartens throughout the city. Good luck to all of them. Our children deserve a break. Our children deserve a decent education.

You must be Bourisaw's husband again telling her to keep her job because traffic court does not pay the bills.

Yeah that V is at it again. But don't worry about her becauase Sullivan said she was crazy. What about whst the judge said?

Is it possible (just asking) that Mr. Sullivan realizes he still needs the Supt. because the SLPS is currently into summer school, closing schools, getting rid of teachers, is broke, and is starting regular classes again in mid-August...and he has never run a district before?

I hope after June 15 th this blog is shut down. What about the children. Just like Slay said today all you all care about is the adults. What did Veronica O'Brien do other than stand her ground and keep her promise to bring about change,
As for Bourisaw and the video, she looks like the liar and cheat the the state said she was. Don't forget Bourisaw was involved with bad data in Wellston and lost.
You city people should do your homework. Who cares about Bourisaw or O'Brien.
O'Brien was after the big picture, Bourisaw and Purdy the little picture. O'Brien won and let us hope it will bring about change.

I doubt if anyone in the history of the SLPS has done more harm than Veronica O'Brien. I hope that Sullivan is as smart as the powers that be think he is and realizes this.

And enough with this "What about the children" line. It is getting tiresome and is only used by people who aren't even involved with the children.

What a long day. I have followed this story all the way---I expected a straight yes or no from the judge. He and Gaines have some common ground----he recently knocked down the republican photo id to vote stuff---and gaines has a history of fighting obstructions to people being able to vote.

I still believe they had a fair judge, even if it did not go my way.

Bourisaw does not have a long term contract, and I doubt she gets one, but as Jim pointed out---she can take care of a lot of stuff to help get them open by August.

She does not fit in with the big picture of emphasis on charter schools, so I think she will be replaced in the next year.

I guess there is an outside chance she could be a power----brokering some sort of peace between two boards-----but I do not understand what governance power the 7 could possibly have------

the stuff regarding accreditation might lead to gigantic financial entanglements.

I have had the impression from the start that Sullivan is not some one who suffers fools gladly---whether that could turn out to be Blunt, Slay, Bourisaw, or his two lesser powers on the board remains to be seen.

Basically, to me. it seems over, with Bourisaw in temporary service mode.

I have often been wrong. but not always.
