DOWNS ELECTED BOARD PRESIDENT

By Antonio D. French

Filed Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 7:30 PM

BREAKING NEWS — READ IT HERE FIRST

By a 4-3 vote, Peter Downs has been elected the new president of the St. Louis Board of Education, beating out newly-elected member David Jackson.

Downs was nominated by past running mate Donna Jones. Jackson was nominated by Flint Fowler.

The vote was by secret ballot, but assuming Veronica O'Brien voted against Downs, Jackson's other two votes came from himself and Fowler. Downs was then selected by himself, Jones, Bill Purdy, and Katie Wessling, Jackson's former running mate.

Jackson was elected Vice-President and Fowler will again serve as Secretary.

With Peter, David, and Flint in the lead, the children do stand a better chance.

So the three white people voted for the white candidate. Three black people voted for the black candidate. And crazy Donna Jones voted with the white folks. Hmmmmmmm.

Yeah, I'm sure the fact that the "black" candidate has been on the board only 2 months and the "white" candidate has had a year to figure out the ropes had absolutely nothing to do with it. Because we are all nothing but the color of our skin. Geez, people! 2 of the 3 officers are black.

And, I didn't notice any of the black Board members offering any visible support to Mr. Jackson after his apology over the email controversy--2 white members were the only ones who did. Why isn't that video posted, Antonio?

With the addition of wessling---who stood up against her usual allies in voting against the Lizz Brown contract, and Jackson---who was clearly angry, but allowed those who he was angry with to communicate with him----this is probably the beswt board the schools have had in a decade.

Let's hope the judge allows them to continue.

Antonio is in the pocket of Bill Purdy and Peter Downs. Did you expect him to ever go against them. Too bad Lewis has gotten in bed with these individuals.

Anonymous 12:16 p.m., you haven't been reading this website very long have you? Now you're slandering Antonio.

Not very smart are you? Totally lacking in discernment or common sense.

If anyone is in bed with one another you might look at City Hall and someone else.
