When the St. Louis Board of Education meets this evening, it will consider a motion to name the group of Elementary Schools and Middle Schools that feed into the Sumner and Turner High Schools the "John F. Bass Educational Complex." Labels: Schools
The late John F. Bass was a St. Louis alderman, a Missouri State Senator, and the first African American comptroller in the city's history. He passed away on February 25, 2007.
According to SLPS Spokesman Tony Sanders, the rededication, to be introduced by Board Vice President Bill Purdy, is intended as an honorarium to Senator Bass and his family in recognition of his service. Several members of Bass' family are expected to be in attendance at this evening's meeting.
The Board of Education meeting tonight is to be held in Carr Lane VPA Middle School and will open to the public at 7:00 PM.

Bill Purdy is such an opportunist, and is always looking for some attention to make it look like he is not a racist. I would rather see someone else on the school board bestow this honor for Senator Bass, and if Bill Purdy wants to do something in honor of Senator Bass then sponsor a resolution in his honor that has teeth.
For example, a resolution getting rid of the Law Firm of Lashley & Baer as the sole legal representation for the St. Louis Public Schools for $3 million dollars a year. No African-American law firms are allowed some of that action. I think Senator John Bass would have fought against this.
Senator John Bass also knew when to pass the torch and move on, can you please move on Bill Purdy as soon as possible!

I agree withthe previous post. Wasn't Purdy a member of the SLPS Board that created the Mel Carnahan School. A uilding that was understaffed and under-equipped before Clinkscale & Schoemehl were elected to the Board.
Purdy is much more than an opportunist, but I'm going to stick to what is a matter of public record.
The most glaring evidence of his ineptness(?) being the poor performance of the district which leads him and his cronies to also give a $25k no-bid contract to another crony to convince parents in the district that the should continue to deprive the children of a successful education so that the rest of the cronies can continue to receive paychecks!!!!!!!

Charlie Chan says, "Velly, velly interesting!"
So what is the reason the district slipped to unaccredited when it was so close since Purdy left the board the last time?
Charlie Chan doesn't take sides--he just like truth and fact velly, velly much!
