Obama now holds a four-point lead over Republican Senator John McCain 46% to 42%. In April, Obama's lead over McCain was six points; prior to that, they were tied 44% to 44% for a couple months in a row.
The Obama campaign will hold two main events today in St. Louis. The first is a rally at the Moolah Theatre, 3821 Lindell Blvd. Tickets to that event are just $25. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
The second event is at the Renaissance Grand Hotel, 800 Washington Ave., at 7:00 p.m. Tickets to this event range from $500 to $2,300.
Obama's chief rival for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Hillary Clinton, was in town last week. Another candidate, former Sen. John Edwards, will be in St. Louis later this month.

For the record, John Edwards is doing the best in head-to-head matchups with all Republican contenders.

The United States of America is not going to elect a black man or white woman!
John Edwards will be the Democratic nominee if Democrats want to win.
Clinton and Obama should drop out of the presidential race and stop wasting valuable money, time, and energy!
Obama has already stated how tired he is anyway!

Anon.
You may be correct about the U.S. but maybe they aren't "wasting" valuable money, time, and energy.
Do you think they could be helping (intentionally or unintentionally) to set the stage when a non-white male could be elected in the future?
Is that a "waste"?
(Also, I notice you didn't mention black women...this country would probably elect Oprah right now!)

Correction...
I should have said "anyone other than a non-white male"...sorry.

That is not right either...I keep leaving people out so let me try one more time...
"Do you think they could be helping (intentionally or unintentionally) to set the stage when anyone other than a white male could be elected in the future?"
Sorry for cluttering the blog.

Anon., I think that America is ready to elect a woman or a black man to the White House. Head-to-head polling shows Edwards doing better against Republican candidates than Clinton or Obama, but both of them would likely win in the general election as well. And both of them would do a hell of a lot better than our current president, but that's not saying a whole lot.

I am beginning to sense that John Edwards is the media's choice. The only way a democrat can get elected is to be a southern moderate, yada, yada, yada.
I disagreed with almost everything Ronald Reagan stood for---but he was able to successfully challenge the media's precious "conventional wisdom", because he could cut right through it and connect with people.
John Kerry could not challenge the conventional wisdom, Edwards is the conventional wisdom, but Obama---could be the flip side of Reagan.
He connects.

kjoe, Edwards is certainly not the media's choice - he doesn't get nearly the amount of coverage of Obama and Clinton. And what hardcore liberalism is Obama standing up for to be the flipside of Reagan's sunny conservatism? I've seen mostly Third Wayism coming from Obama.

BTW, here are the poll results showing Edwards' appeal in a general election.
