Governor Matt Blunt recently appeared on Fox News to discuss the state's recent firing of a state contractor who was using illegal immigrants to work on state projects. The State of Missouri cancelled its contract with Sam’s Janitorial Services and barred them from doing further business with the state after local and federal law enforcement agencies identified dozens of suspected illegal immigrants working under falsified documents.Blunt credited Housekeeping Manager Vernon Morris for first noticing inconsistencies in the contract staff's documents and tipping off the Capitol Police. At the end of the interview, Blunt also talks about his support of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.Labels: Governor Link to this story

Hi Antonio -(First, congrats on the election. You and your team worked hard, and I am happy for you.)Re the Blunt situation.... is it accurate that it was the Blunt administration that just a few weeks ago eliminated state janitorial positions, and then outsourced those same jobs to the very company which hired the illegals? If so, then it seeems awfully hypocritical of Blunt to try to take credit at a 'breaking news conference' for uncovering this situation, as if it was his super efficient administration that uncovered this mess. It seems to me that it might be more accurate to say that it is his administration that is actually at fault for the situation even existing. At the very, very least, there should have been greater vetting of the janitorial firm. And that doesn't even begin to address the argument as to wheter the outsourcing of those state jobs was the right move. That's certainly a debatable point, but better for another day.

I am wondering how far off the mark I might be in thinking this "outsourcing is generally wonderful" mindset is something that Slay and Blunt hope to preserve, as they decide who to appoint to run the schools.

Antonio, please refer to them as "undocumented workers."

The Missouri Analysis Department? That's funny.

Dear crazy liberal:They're undocumented because they came into this country illegally--call them what they are, illegal immigrants and lawbreakers. They may otherwise decent, hardworking people, but they broke the law and when you break the law there are consequences. Also, I'm all for outsourcing if it keeps taxes low. I pay taxes so that I can receive government services. The fact that people need to be employed to perform those services is ancillary. Government is not a jobs program.

That's true...recently government is a let's blow the hell out of them program with a little neglect your own thrown in.
