Students Describe Meeting with Mayor

By Antonio D. French

Filed Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 7:48 PM

PUB DEF EXCLUSIVE

Erica Simpson, a 16 year-old sophomore from Metro High School, said following the meeting with Mayor Francis Slay, the group was locked out of the lobby they had been waiting in. She said several members from the group screamed out of a window to a Fox 2 news crew that they were being held without their permission in the mayor's chambers.

Kaylan Halloway alleged that marshals cursed at the group of students, saying "I don't give a care about you little motherfuckers."

Have one of them file criminal false imprisonment charges against whoever held them there if true.
They make themselves so proud!
The Percy Green and Norman Seah(sp) and the rest, of our generation!

City hall closes at 5:00, the Mayor and his staff let them stay - overnight- that doesn't give them the run of the building. If they don't like it, maybe they should go home, get some sleep and then go back to class where they should be LEARNING.

"The whole history of the progress of human liberty shows that all concessions yet made to her august claims have been born of earnest struggle...if there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreceate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightening... They want the ocean without the awful roar of it's many waters. Power concedes nothing without struggle. It never has and it never will."

Frederick Douglas.

I am proud of how these students have conducted themselves. I am also a proud graduate of the public school system. They are engaging in a peaceful, civil protest, which is their right. Classrooms aren't the only arena that one learns life lessons. Unless they do something inappropriate, these students should be applauded for standing up for themselves, their right to a good education and their outrage that their adult leaders have let them down.

I, too, am a graduate of a "public" school. I realized at college how unprepared I was compared to my competition. I have come to realize that public schools are truly government schools--designed to train complacent myrmidons.

These kids should be home, doing their homework, getting ready for class tomorrow and preparing themselves to compete in the marketplace of the future.

This is history, really, and I commend the future leaders for standing up for what is right. If these kids stay in St. Louis, then perhaps the future will be better than the present.

Yeah history alright. Adults using kids for their gain.

just thought i'd ask said...

Does anyone know how much Liz Brown is paid for the St. Louis Public Schools Watch segment of her show? Is it paid by Peter Downs, Bill Purdy, or is she contracted by the district or the Local 420? I've heard that she gets as much as $1500 per show. That's 1500 reasons to keep the chaos going. She did the same thing when Cleveland Hammonds was here. Some also say that is why she was so down on Creg Williams - because he refused her tactics.

Just thought I'd ask . . .

CWEguy, maybe you didn't take advantage of your schooling, but don't blame the school for it. I too went to public schools and went through college and beyond on scholarships based on what I gained in that public school--including scholarships to private universities.

uh the children should go home and do their homework? next you'll suggest they should let the adults settle it

"and a child will lead them"
"out of the mouth of babes"

I hope they don't go home and do their homework, and let the sh**stem continue to plan another 400 years of destruction for them to unknowingly participate in, and create wars for them to fight abroad, while giving them no voice at home, and pretend to allow them to be all they've been denied the opportunity to be in society in the armed forces.

I hope they learn more from this experience than the socialized conditioning prescription purchased by SLPS and work for and with each other as opposed to for a bunch of companies that don't give a crap about their shadow, let alone them!

It is neither relevent or an expression of good character to assert that Ms Brown is GRANDSTANDING on the backs and pocketbooks of persons or other netities, for personal fame and fortune. If true, Ms Brown will reap what she sows.

However, Who else is out there bringing the INSIDERS point of view. Who else but a non-commital naysayer would assume every possible nefarious activity is behind the TRUTH. I guess that is why they remain ANONYMOUS!!

I am surprised that the local colleges and more caucasian youth and citizenry are not involved in a true sense of solidarity. I hope that this is due to a simple slow response; and not any assumtion of the type that ANONYMOUS may assert.

Thank You Mr. French for your focused reporting.

Lizz Brown, Rush Limbaugh, the Enquirer and other media like them are parasites. They create drama, then feed off of it for show ratings which allow them to demand more from advertisers. It is a game, don't you see? It is about the money. Lizz changes sides based on who is feeding her pocketbook. If what the previous poster said is true about her getting $1500 per show and she does 1 show per week, that is $78,000 a year. That is not including the other ads on her show. She has no children. She is not from here nor did she grow up here. Do you really think it is about the children? Let's not forget that she is a lawyer. She knows how to badger people and twist the truth to make it fit her case.

This is not an issue where people should trash talk about Lizz Brown and other adults. This is for the kids, by the kids and about the kids. Sleep on that for a minute or two while this in in content.

As long as Liz is in the picture, the picture will remain distorted. Why don't one of you who is defending the motives of Mrs. Brown simply ask her what is she making off of the Schools Watch Segment? Why not discuss the fluctuations in her add costs as the topics change? Why not question how she LOST her law licsence(sp) and happened into radio?

How many classrooms has she actually spent enough time in to know what the children are facing? Why did Bill Purdy begin appearing on her show only after making his financial contribution to the cause?

I participated in the "mass meetings" that were held at the Gateway Classic building when Roberti first came to town and that whole effort came apart because of her greed and insistance that she get paid. That turned a great number of people of and eventually alot of us found other avenues to get our feeling out.

Liz is nothing more than a $$$hi+ disburber and I'll be glad when she is gone.
