After moving the regular monthly board meeting from Tuesday to Thursday, SLPS school board president Veronica O'Brien has now cancelled the meeting all together. Her statement: Labels: Schools
"The Regular Monthly Board Meeting for the month of March was scheduled for Thursday, March 29, 2007; with an executive session at 5:30 p.m. and the open session at 7:00 p.m. This meeting was scheduled to conduct business as requested by the Superintendent.
This meeting has now been cancelled because at least four of the seven Board Members are unable to attend tonight’s meeting. A reschedule date is not available at this time. Please direct questions to the Board Members Office at 345-2304."
If you haven't already seen it, click here to watch KTVI's J.C. Corcoran's recent commentary on the controversial president who was first appointed to the board by Mayor Francis Slay.
As the mayor prepares to announce his latest selection to help lead the city's public schools, many people are keeping their fingers crossed in hopes that he makes a wiser choice this time.

They are all meeting with the FBI, regarding e-mails and phone calls about Floyd Irons.

Tonight on "Survivor--School Board"
Veronica gets voted off of the island. There is already a new coalition set and we should expect six or seven more months of peaceful co-existance. Then this coalition will break down. Someone else will be the bad guy or gal and get voted off the island. Meanwhile, the kids suffer.
Will it ever end?

Antonio, you're right that Mayor Slay gave us Veronica. In fairness though, she has been elected on her own since then and she ran with the full-throated approval of the people who would do her in now. They have as much to do with her being there as Mayor Slay does.

Any communication between the 4 members, whether email or anything else, is subject to Sunshine Law. I wonder if they planned to be "sick?"

Antonio---I don't know where to post this---I wondered why you have had nothing to say about the lawyer from Yale--Champagne--who is representing ? in fighting the legality of the takeover.
There seems to be a difference of opinion between news directors at ksdk and ktvi in reporting that there is an extensive investigation of Floyd irons by the fbi, compared to kmox and the pd, who, obviously have heard the rumblings but have decided, so far, to not say anything.
You can't cover everything---but I was surprised you have had nothing on these two matters.

City Woman: You're right, I'm sorry to say. Ms. O'Brien DID garner the support of many people when she first came on the scene. Of course, she wasn't acting irrationally then. I turn Ms. O'Brien over in my mind and can never quite make sense of her. It seems like she either suffered a break with reality and common sense during her time in office, perhaps a byproduct of too much power; or she has been acting out a carefully laid plan from the beginning, one in which the appearance of "insanity" was and is a cover for her true motives--like Hamlet. If the latter is the case, she may do well to take note of the fact that at the end of the story a lot of people get hurt that he never originally intended to involve...including himself.

I don't believe that Veronica O'Brien looks crazy in every picture that she takes, and I take offense to that language being used to describe her physically.
In fact, I don't care for any women to be described that way publicly as far as their appearance, and especially any black women. My mother is a black woman, and I have all love for black women. I wouldn't be where I am today were it not for them, and I mean that wholeheartedly.
That being said, Veronica O'Brien has been to my ward meetings everytime I have requested her presence, and has taken the time to present her reasoning for any actions that have come into question. Everyone has not always agreed with her on everything, but we don't ever say that she looks crazy in all of her pictures. In addition, Veronica O'Brien has personally fought to make sure that my residents had the right to vote in our ward for numerous elections while she has been Board President.
I am disappointed with this particular comment and all the personal attacks I hear and read on this black woman. I can understand you may attack her actions on policy, but to say that all of her pictures look crazy. A scathing generalization!
I watch Fox 2 news in the morning sometimes, and I have my thoughts about their newscasters and political commentaries. John Corcoran was offensive to me when he attacked Veronica O'Brien's clientele that choose to use her insurance agency, and her insurance agency has nothing to do with the School Board issues! John Pertzborn on the other hand has a bad habit of pointing his finger and hand toward his guest face when he doesn't agree with them. Watch the video link of both gentleman! They both were rude and unprofessional as newscasters for Fox 2. I still wouldn't label them as "looking crazy and irate" all the time in every broadcast.
Lastly, I have seen many pictures of Veronica O'Brien where she looks very beautiful as all black woman do, therefore I respectfully disagree with your assessment.
Peace & Love,

Yeah, all of what you said. And yet, don't forget that the picture that is presented with a story will almost always (99.99% of the time) tell you what the author thinks of the person. Cameras today can take pictures at a very fast rate. The pronunciation of the most common words can be featured as a grimmace in an article that is slanted one way or another.
Quite a ham fisted use of the race card as well, Mr. Palm.

What does this mean? Who was stopping the residents from voting? More importantly, perhaps she should have been paying attention to the school board instead. That is the position she was elected too.
