Nap's Over

By Antonio D. French

Filed Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 4:16 PM

After a three-hour break for a quick shower and nap, Senators came back in session at 2 o'clock for hour number 20 of the Democrats' filibuster against Governor Blunt's controversial MOHELA plan.

Dems have a skeleton crew on the floor while leadership from both parties meet to negotiate a deal.

We're told that fundraisers have been cancelled for the night and both sides are ready for another night sleeping in chairs.

Using loans, which often are for low income students, or those that simply need a loan like myself, is bad policy. I understand that our Universities need money for capital improvements as I attend one of them, yet if students cannot afford college, then who is going to enjoy those improvements?

Seems like a better idea would be to raise taxes. Oh no, not raising taxes!

Well Missouri is near the bottom in terms of per capita educational spending, as well as taxes. Maybe it's time we change that.

In order to have quality public goods, we must fund them properly.
