Why? This is dumb. The new board will handle this. Do these jokers not know that they are over.

Perhaps someone thinks it is important to hear what the public has to say about the decisions made with their children and their communities and their tax money before the facist regime that disenfranchised this piece of America seizes power. You know, just so there is a record of it, so that in future generations someday when a free America is restored, school children will learn that not EVERY St. Louis citizen went along with this destruction of everything America stood for. Of course, people like you, 7:55, will just deny that you ever were part of it. I hope you enjoy life in South America with the rest of the failed facists. YOU WILL NOT WIN IN THE END.

The SLPS also accepts written feedback about the proposed changes and closures via mail:

Operations Division
St. Louis Public Schools
801 N. 11th St.
St. Louis, MO 63101

And on their website: http://www.slps.org/public_comment/facility/

The future interim board can always say they included the previous board's recommended closures among their larger list. Better yet, the future board can even say they considered (read patronized) public comments, thanks to this forum.

I was reading about Riverview gardens, noting that they went from 9 down to 3 accreditation qualifications,(st. louis has 5, which would be 6 in the criminals in the state dept were not cheating and doing whatever it takes for Blunt and Slay)and there seem to be a few questionable financial shenanigans by the superintendent.

When I look at the red tape it takes to fire even a superintendent like this one---I am reminded about the worshipers of Creg Williams were crying about how he got pushed out.

If he wanted to stay and fight---he could have---insteaqd he just took the money and left a big mess.

Bourisaw has somehow inspired people who believe in the slps to keep fighting to the end----which in her case will be about 30 days after the takeover.

She will leave much less of a mess than the one Creg Williams left---which is being used as the reason they must take over---now!

3/14/2007 8:42 AM Are you coming out and saying that you will not do your best to educate the students even if the state takes over? You can never say that "it is about the kids" if that is what you are saying. Shame on you.

Lets just say, for the sake of argument, that the introduction of mediocrity in the 70's and 80's. The introduction of failure in the 90's and the introduction of insanity in the 00's has disenfranchised a WHOLE lot more voters than the DESE taking over.

It's broke! Fix it!

Let's just say, for argument, that you have it wrong.

There has been a huge infusion of genuine sanity since Irons was dealt with, and Williams slinked off.

SLPS is not any more "broke" than any other underfunded urban district. SLPS test scores are only a small percentage below most large county districts, and SLPS scores for African-American students are ABOVE most county districts. Check the dese.mo.gov website and find out.

Aimless and criminal dropout youngsters in our area are NOT a SLPS problem but a St. Louis City and state of Missouri problem. How long are people going to buy into the lie that tinkering with schools can solve social problems? What makes anyone think that a governor who "fixes" medicaid by cutting off aid to thousands of children and a mayor who "fixes" city economic woes by giving huge tax breaks to developers will have a CLUE how to "fix" the social diseases of urban children?

Watch and see if the takeover doesn't create more problems than it solves. They will rely on federal curriculum--proven by falling test scores to be detrimental to our children-- because it comes with fat grants for investors, drive good teachers out of the district because they do not desire to be scripted automatons, and then when the children's scores fall as low as the CHARTERS ARE NOW, they will dissolve the whole district into charters that they have invested in and have control of. All of them will make a HUGE LOT OF MONEY...

and before their 6 years are up, the voters will rise up to retake their school district just like they did in Detroit. Then the voters will put ALL these foolish, greedy, short-sighted people out of office for good.

Kjoe, your definition of sanity and mine are vastly differing.

Anon 3:26 So all of the problems are caused by a few malcontents and not enough money? Wow, that should be very simple to repair.

You idiots are as far out of touch with reality as Slay and his idiots.

It is always about money with you people.

Both sides of this pork barrel had better hope that the common voter does not rise up or there will be some changes.

Trouble, you should read an article titled "Cash Cow" in Education Weekly. It supports the theory that all of this "privatization" is a shell game to suck money out of public schools and put it into the pockets of corporate America. I spent years working at SLPS, and since Dr. Hammonds, there was no one who put the children first until Dr. Bourisaw. I gave up and left during Dr. Williams tenure, because every time I thought it couldn't get worse - it did. We had made steady progress in so many areas, then Roberti came in and dismantled all of the supports that were working. After him we had two interim superintendents who couldn't hold a candle to Dr. Hammonds. But the worst of all was Creg Williams. All he cared about was lining his friends pockets. He brought in friends, girlfriends of friends, and entire consulting companies run by friends. Half of these people weren't even qualified to do the jobs they were given, and all were at inflated salaries. YOU are the one that is out of touch!

Adric, I am saying that both sides are camped out at the trough and it is disgusting. I dont know if you cannot comprehend what you read or choose not to comprehend.

So trouble, enlighten me. What are you saying is the solution here?

Since you asked. I do not claim to have the answers. I am clearly stating my feelings that both sides in this debacle are at fault, how ever holy they might try to be seen. A fresh start with fewer people to grandstand sounds pretty good to me. I am not happy about losing the right to vote for school board members. But, for goodness sake, to call our school board a circus would be insulting to clowns everywhere.

There are times, when walking through a minefield, that one should step on the sacred cows first.

Trouble, my reading comprehension isn't the problem. I have experience to go with what I read, so I think that people who are basing their opinions on reading what others think miss a lot of what I have seen up close and personal - so close that I bailed on the district during the Williams debacle. Now there is hope for the first time in years, and you don't see it, because you are basing her administration on the Williams administration problems. This will be taken away from our kids if people don't support her efforts. Dr. Bourisaw not only eliminated his patronage positions, but also strengthened teacher supports - the most important job of administration. For the first time since Dr. Hammonds, the district isn't being milked. Why do people want to dump that?

3/14/2007 10:44 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Because, not milking the system is not enough. You are absolutely correct that I am basing my opinions on what others are saying. "Where there is smoke, there is fire" rings true most of the time.

I am just an average Joe who has had enough.

You were so quick to ask for my solutions. What is your solution to make the SLPS respectable?
(please note-respect was long gone when Roberti came in and pillaged the District)

Bourisaw has not inspired anyone she is a trouble maker and does this everywhere she goes. She is bad for the district

"Bourisaw has not inspired anyone she is a trouble maker and does this everywhere she goes. She is bad for the district"

That cannot be a post from veronica O'Brien. She and Bourisaw caused a lot of trouble when they worked together to have Floyd Irons' power taken away, which let to the puddle of tears on his behalf by the "reformer" Creg Williams, who was so sad about it he quit.

A lot of what makes Bourisaw such a trouble maker is her habit of gathering up the facts necessary to back up what she is making trouble about.

The good ole boys in Matt Bluntsville sure grabbed her by the ***and told her where to stick her facts.

To the anonymous average Joe who has had enough. Have you gone to listen to any of the Board candidates and hear their thoughts? You admit you don't have solutions, the state has not offered any, but those running have something to say and they are willing to say it. Don't give up your right to vote so easily. You won't have any recourse if the state takeover doesn't make things better. You can't vote those people out, you know.
