Aldermen Say Farewell to Attorney

By Antonio D. French

Filed Monday, March 12, 2007 at 11:09 AM

After nearly 12 years serving as the attorney for the Board of Aldermen, Patrick J. Conaghan received a warm farewell Friday as he headed to his new job in the Probate Courts.

Conaghan received a proclamation from Mayor Francis Slay and a resolution from the full Board of Aldermen, presented by Alderman Fred Wessels, before being sworn into his new position by Judge David Dowd.

Conaghan joked to the crowd filling the floor of the Aldermanic chambers that after a dozen years in City Hall he knew most of them were there for the food.

the board of aldermen is so screwed. untested leadership coming in while losing the rock that has helped run the board. This is just like what happens with term limits - all the institutional knowledge leaves and the rest are left holding the bag not knowing what to do with it.

Patrick J. Conaghan is about as racist and discriminatory as they come. He doesn't like blacks, hispanics, or any people of color. This is not a surprise that he is leaving, because he couldn't serve a black man in leadership directly anyway.

If his new job involves working with blacks at all, they better be concerned. Plus, hopefully he is not reporting to a black guy. Good luck in your new job, and the changing of the guard must go on!

I have always found Patrick J. Conaghan an open-minded and pleasant person to work. Why does this have to become an issue of racism? After 12 years of commitment to the Board of Alderman, I feel he has a right to pursue other interests without all of the racial innuendo. I find the attitude of several posting to be what creates the racial division of this city.

It was widely known that Conaghan planned to leave his post to take his judge-ship weeks before the recent election concluded. His leaving has nothing to do with the results of that recent election.
