You know, they should sale the land to barnes. I dont know anyone who uses that section of forest park anyway. Had this stuff not been in the news, I would have never knew that, that section of land didnt belong to barnes already. I say pass the vote.

Dougbo, will you be asking Jimbo to stop the dog pound from using park land too?
2/06/2007 1:47 PM
Jim is the voice of reason here. Public parks are for public uses - not private ones!

The proposal is to take land is for public usage, actually a City service. I find that a much better compromise when compared to the BJC Forest Park Dealing, especially since BJC's Chairman Paul McKee Jr. who built Winghaven, is buying up 1000 acres in the North Side.
If you want to get angry then get involved with Blairmont.
As Barbara put it, this whole Forest Park dealing could be a distraction in order to keep everyone preoccupied from the real crime that is Blairmont.

I think you're an idiot if you think the public gets more use out of an animal shelter than a hospital! Give me a break.

Barnes is a private entity.
The Animal House is a public entity.
It's pretty simple.
2/06/2007 3:04 PM
So do you only go to public hospitals? And as more people move back into the city where are you and your kids (if you have any) going to get medical care? At the Animal House?
2/06/2007 3:23 PM
As the city grows the demand for private medical hospital, like Barnes, will increase and they will be constructed. Supply and demand. Although we have other adequate hospitals in our city, an adequate Animal Regulation Center does not exist. And let me say one more time: BARNES IS A PRIVATE ENTITY. Our park is not for sale.
2/06/2007 3:53 PM
So we will let BJC continue the current (read existing)lease of that park space for $160,000 for the NEXT 40 YEARS or so instead of leasing it to them for $1.6 million. And that new money could be spread out to rehab existing parks or make new ones.
Makes a lot of sense to me.

this is pretty simple. do you support using our resources for life--a hospital--or death--the death park proposed by Shrewsbury where upto 5000 dogs will be killed and burned on-site?
2/06/2007 5:01 PM
No murder in Ellendale - where did you get your #? It looks like you made it up. The Animal House is an Animal Care facility, not a cremation facility.
You are right, this is pretty simple - do you support using our public parks for PRIVATE purposes or public ones? We have adequate hospitals here. We do not have an adequate Animal House.
2/06/2007 5:27 PM
Yes, but Chris couldn't they put the animal shelter any where? Do they really need park land?
Also, I have heard from another source that the dogpound puts down between 3 and 5000 dogs a year.
I love the smell of burnt dog in the morning!
2/06/2007 7:39 PM
I believe the city looked for alternatives to using Ellendale for a number of years. Have you even been to this park? Trust me, this would be a big improvement.
Couldn't BJC build taller buildings? Is Forest Park the only place for them to build? Maybe they could build another building off site. Many hospitals in many cities have certain divisions in other areas of town. Maybe Barnes should take some initiative and develop some depraved areas of the city.
Now you reduced your number of "burnt dogs" by 2000. Show me the source of this information. In any case, there will be a reduction in the number of dogs put down once the Animal House is built. The goal of it is to put more animals up for adoption. Your argument has nothing to do with creating the Animal House in the park. Dogs are being put down now - that's not a reason to not do the Animal House.
