The 17th Ward Democratic Organization has endorsed Lewis Reed for President of the Board of Aldermen, bringing the total number of aldermen and wards supporting the challenger to 16 of 28. Labels: BOA_President_Race
Reed is running against incumbent Jim Shrewsbury in the March 6th primary election, which is just 13 days away.

Is Darlene Green endorsing Jim Shrewsbury? There is a picture of her and Shrewsbury at the top of the Shrewbsury campaign site.

Hmm... Roddy and BJC are not happy.

Apparently the majority of the Board of Aldermen are not happy with the current President.

This endorsement seems to reflect the CWE portion of the ward (in line with the neighboring 28th Ward nod), but at odds with the Forest Park Southeast part, which appreciates Shrewsbury's support, and dislikes Reed's opposition, to that neighborhood's battle with BJC over Hudlin Park.

Who has appointment power for the new 3 member takeover school board if Reed wins?

Oracle--
Not so fast...
I have it from a reliable source that there are maybe 10 residents of Forest Park Southeast who utilize Hudlin Park, and that once BJC agreed to build a new park IN THE FPSE NEIGHBORHOOD, the majority of FPSE now supports the BJC plan.
Think about it...if you lived in FPSE, wouldn't you rather have a park in your neighborhood than one across the highway anyway?
Besides, if they don't mind crossing a highway to go to a park, they've got the REST of FOREST PARK closer to them than just about anyone else in the entire city.
No, FPSE is not blocking the BJC deal, and Roddy knows it.

Shrewsbury makes the appointment win or lose as he will still be pres until after the April general election and swearing in.

Of course, if the interim board member's appointment belongs to the office, a Shrewsbury appointment could have a relatively short tenure.

There is no pin-pointed time when the appointments would go into effect, since if the state yanks accreditation and tries to put the transitional board into effect, there will be requests for injunctive relief while the lawsuits work through the courts. So, whoever is in office when it is all over will make the appointment, if one is to be made.

and with all of his hard work to get the state take-over to happen, shrewsbury might not get to make the appointment. how sad for him.

At least Shrewsbury is a better judge of character than Lewis Reed. I'd rather Shrewsbury pick that transition board person.

So what Reed has aldermen endorsing. That doesn't mean that those aldermen are upset, angry, or otherwise disenchanted with the Jim Shrewsbury.
Fear, money, deals, promises are all strong motivating factors for endorsements.
In the words of President Bush, Tuesday, March 6th will be the Deciderer.
