Two stories from the Post makes us ask what happened to "southern" hospitality? Labels: Media_Watch
First, Jake Wagman reports that the Police Officers Association denied their endorsement to Matt Browning's aldermanic campaign. Browning, a former police officer, lost both of his legs in the line of duty just two years ago. What upset Browning as much as anything, according to Wagman, was that he first heard about the union's decision this week by a phone call from a reporter.
Second, in this week's Southside Journal, Jim Merkel followed up on our earlier report of the fallout of the Aldermanic President's decision to not allow a prayer for the son of a colleague even though prayers were allowed, as they regularly are, for the then-missing Kirkwood boy and others.
"I think what Jim Shrewsbury did was morally reprehensible and politically dimwitted," said Alderman Stephen Gregali, D-14th Ward.
3 Comments:
Reed had better articulate a bigger agenda than "Jim Shrewsbury is evil" if he wants to win.

Matt is a very nice young man, who was hurt doing his job for our city. The city owes him a job that he can perform with the abilities he still has. That however is not a case for the voters to elect him alderman.
A quick look at what the current alderman has done, compared with a young man with no experience in the political field makes the choice clear for the police officers association, firefighters and the voters of the 12th ward.
Our street and alleys have never been in such well maintained condition, new housing is being built in the ward on property the school board had neglected for years, our parks have been improved and the alderman is a regular at our neighborhood association meetings. To top it off, he returns phone calls!
What more could you ask?
In time, Matt might well be a good choice, but that time is not now.

It is not a surprise that the union did not back one of their own. I read that a few weeks back. He should not have been surprised nor should he had taken their support for granted. That is the same as voting for a candidate because they are of the same party you are or the same race. IT is about the issues.
