Boyd with Healthy War Chest

By Antonio D. French

Filed Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 11:35 AM

Alderman Jeffrey Boyd is sitting in good position as he prepares for a rematch with his old 22nd Ward nemesis, Jay Ozier.

On his latest campaign finance report, Boyd shows more that $35,000 in the bank after raising $5,420 during the last quarter of 2006.

Ozier, Boyd's opponent in the March primary election, doesn't seem to have an active campaign committee and has not yet filed his finance reports. In a phone interview, Ozier said he plans to submit his report before tomorrow's deadline.

The upcoming contest is a rematch of their 2003 race which Boyd won by just nine votes.

When told how much cash Boyd reported on-hand, Ozier said he has not raised as much but "I've been getting quite a bit of support from the people and that's what it's all about."

It seemed like he was receiving a lot of good public support from the Monsanto YMCA. The YMCA has giving him a lot of credit for some of the capital improvements they made. I doubt if he did aything.

I also heard that Michael Johnson, the Executive Director who behind the scenes supported him financially resigned last week.

This guy stays in the news. He is always in the paper, on the radio and on television. I thought Alderman Mike McMillian and Mayor Slay was putting him up to run for office.

These guy is always on the news. he was with with Alderman Boyd cleaning streets with the Mayor. What a PR stunt!

I heard that McMillian was putting Michael Johnson up to run for public office. This guy is a politician not a non-profit manager.

He get alot of credit for turning the YMCA around. However, he used people like Alderman Boyd to push his agenda. The word is he leaving the YMCA for a job with former friend superintendent Creg Williams in Indiana.

I am glad and hope he is leaving. He is not from St. Louis and someone from St. Louis should have been given that job. This guy was making of 100,00 dollars and I hope Boyd does not put one of his cruny in.

Someone from St. Louis deserves that jobn and mony not an out of town politican or a friend of an alderman

Stop Hating and learn how to spell money! Michael Johnson and Alderman Boyd are two young good brothers and they are working hard in that community.

I do agree that Johnson is in the news a lot. I knew he would not be there long because he was moving things at a rapid rate and was well liked by everyone. This guy was on everyone’s board and spoke at everybody’s dinner. I came to a barbeque and he was speaking at the damm barbeque about the YMCA and his plans.

I heard him speak at my church and he was amazing. I have heard nothing but good things about him in many circles and I hope he is not leaving St. Louis. This would be a huge loss to the city.

In regards to the Alderman he will win and everyone knows that. He is a mentee to the Mayor and Lewis Reed and is good friends with Rev. Mike Jones. Do I need to say more?

It is true. Mr. Michael Johnson announced this morning that he was moving to Indiana to work for a children's home. It seemed like a demotion and he did not seem thrilled about it. I wonder if the good old boys forced him out.

I am a senior at the YMCA and he has made a real difference in our lives. I hope he does not leave and hopefully someone will talk with him.

He seemed to be well connectted and liked by the corporate community, everytime I looked around he was raising thousands of dollars for us.

I do not under stand why he is leaving. I saw his face and he was crying and looked puzzled.

I believe they forced him out becuase he was making alot of other YMCA people look bad. The Governor, Mayor and everybody liked this guy. I saw his wife and she did not seem excited about him leaving.

I would call the YMCA of St. Louis and speak with those folks to see what happened to him. I cant beleive he would just leave us.

Michael Johnson was too involved in politics and that is a no-no with the YMCA. He pissed a lot of people off with his political stances and the chickens are coming home to roost. The organization is called the YMCA, not the YMPA. Young Mens Christian Association, not Young Mens Political Association, and it will be interesting to see if the powerful white people like Jeffrey Boyd (wants to be white), the Mayor, and Governor, same their good ole atta boy.

Actually, Mr. Johnson has received the opportunity that most wish they could get. He is very excited about his new CEO position, but hates to leave what he has started at the Monsanto YMCA. I have seen his committment to his job and the people there. He really cares about the community. He is one in a million. His new job is blessed to get such a hardworking caring young man. He will be missed. I disagree about the comments that he was a politician. He was someone who knew how to work with both democrats and republicans to get us what we needed at Monsanto. I have been a board member for the last twenty years and I have seen more done in the last two years that he was here than I have seen done in the previous eighteen. As a board member, I have never seen Johnson make any political stances or support anyone running for office. However he did publicly recognize politicians that financially supported the YMCA. People need to stop bashing this young man and thank God for what he has done to help us. It's unfortunate for us now. We must find someone now that can carry the torch and keep Monsanto in the forefront.

The Alderman (democrat) has done an great job and people tried to illegal push him out of office. I guess people are supporting his campaign to rebel against those people who tried pushing him out of office. He was on tv yesterday and voted against the forest park deal. He will win and deserves to win!

The Alderman works out at the YMCA in the mornings and I heard Mike Johnson tell people that Boyd hepled the YMCA to lobby Senator Kit Bond(republican)for a 250,000 gift from his office.

I know for a fact that Johnson personally supported Boyd becuase he would secretly give him and other politicians public endorsements if they supported him and the YMCA.

I have to give him credit. I attended the MLK brekafast, which Boyd was there and they probably name more than 3 dozens politicians that were there. I had never seen that many politicains at that breakfast before. This guy had everbody there. It makes you wonder.

I heard about this post from a collegue of mine yesterday and I am appalled to hear about some of these comments. I have only known Big Mike for about year and he is a stand up guy.

I doubt if he donated money to Boyd (and if he did that is his business). I dont much much about Boyd and if he is supported by Mike than I support him.

Mike created so many intiatives that people were getting jeoulous of him. I work for another community organization and he knew how to encourage people to get things done for kids. My bosses would ask us to colloborate with him.

I hope the leadership at the YMCA find some one half as good as he was.
