On Collateral Damage Tonight

By Antonio D. French

Filed Monday, December 18, 2006 at 4:00 PM

I'm scheduled to be a guest on "Collateral Damage" tonight with hosts D.J. Wilson and Fred Hessel and Steve Patterson of Urban Review STL. The show starts at 7:00 and can be heard on KDHX 88.1 FM or online at www.kdhx.org.

Among the topics we'll be discussing is the 6th Ward controversy over new ward organization members and missing by-laws and how it may relate to the campaign for Aldermanic President. Other likely topics will be the immediate future of the St. Louis Public Schools and recent changes on Cherokee Street. If you have suggestions for other topics for us to discuss use the comments section below.

How does the 6th ward committee issue have anything to do with the race for aldermanic president?

Oh, I get it...because of the ward's committee endorsement for aldermanic president?

How many people really vote based on committee endorsements?

You know, open voting wards like 6 often have these little set-tos at endorsement time. Shrewsbury's ward (16th) had a similar situation in 2003 as people sought to replace Shrewsbury as alderman. One of the Malle's (tavern owner) recruited lots of new members and 'hijacked' the endorsement. IIRC Shrewsbury and his close supporters then ignored the ward endorsement and supported Donna Barringer.

Boring history except that it is spot-on, almost identical to 6th ward and underscores that these little ward fights do happen.

Maybe this is not the place to ask---but regarding the three person committee replacing the slps 7 member board---which serves for several years----If there is a new mayor, a new governor or a new chairman of the board of alderman, will they be able to replace any of the three members, or are they appointed for the duration of the arrangement?

Are their appointments subject to approval by anyone other than Slay, Blunt, and Shrewsbury?
