The campaign for President of the Board of Aldermen could all come down to this:

LewisReed.net vs. JimShrewsbury.com

Reed still has that dyslexic press release on his site.

Anon 1, I agree. What up with that dribble of a release?

And his blog has a link to the Evening Whirl, but not Pub Def? Oh, Gentry.

The blog entry is signed Travis Reems, not Gentry Trotter.

Well, if that's the cyber match up, somebody is probably going to get a visit from the ethics police -- or Jake Wagman.

The Reed website seems to be a campaign website written by campaign staffers; the Shrewsbury website seems to be a taxpayer funded public website, written by City employees.

Good points, both Anonies. (BTW, is it that hard to pick a fake name? May I suggest "SooperSnooper" and "Ethics Five-0"? Just click "other" and type in any fake name next time you comment. It's easy.)

Oh, and... Y tu Travis? Y tu?

I can't tell from the first page of Reed's website that he was ever an alderman. Is that something he wants to keep a secret? Or do I have him confused with someone else?

Jim's Web site is not taxpayer funded.

"Jim's Web site is not taxpayer funded."

Of course it is.

It can't be paid for by Jim or his political committee because it lacks a legal disclaimer.

"Building ONE St. Louis"

Nice way to copy Jeff Smith.

How about: "Rebuilding St. Louis!"

By the way, Jim's website, if it happens to be paid through his personal funds, would be considered indirectly funded by taxpayers, as we pay his salary.

Doug- that argument aways works for me when I get pulled over by the police, as well.

Antonio- Don't you remember challenging Travis to support... uhm...some sort of candidate last spring? (OK-it is a bad joke if I have to explain it to myself before posting) (Ides of March)

Told you it was bad.

Here's the site's address, from the home page:

Office of the President-St. Louis City Hall Room 232 - St. Louis, MO 63103 -314.622.4114

That sure looks like a City address.

To clear up any confusion, Jim decided last year to created a website where we could write about interesting people and places in the city of St. Louis.

Given the amount of work our web team does everyday to keep the City's website up and running, we did not want to burden them with having to constantly update the President's page and we decided to create www.jimshrewsbury.com.

Regular readers of our site have met the people behind Citizen Service Bureau, who answer more than 100,000 phone calls a year from city residents. We've written about Marti Frumhoff and the admirable work she is doing with the Rehabbers Club and about Patrick Horine and his wife Jenny Ryan, who have had tremendous success in their first year with the Tower Grove Farmers' Market.

Many of you have emailed us wanting to know how you can donate your used cell phones to Phones for Life and your generosity is greatly appreciated.

While I certainly thank Antonio for the plug, it was a little misleading to compare Ald. Reed's new campaign website with www.jimshrewsbury.com.

The fact is, Jim has been paying for this site out of his own pocket. No City money nor campaign funds have ever been used to fund this website. We have never, and will never, endorse any candidates or ballot measures or make any political speeches on jimshrewsbury.com. This site is a service we provide to interested citizens who want to read about the people, places and events that are helping to make St. Louis a more vibrant and liveable city.

To prevent any future confusion, we have decided to create a new URL address for the site, which will be happening shortly.

I hope you'll keep logging on to read what we and others have to say about life in the city.

Thanks for your time.

Matt Murphy
Administrative Assistant to the President
St. Louis Board of Aldermen

Matt, errr, last posted anonymous, you must know how to use a blog like Mr. French instructed a further up the post Anonie to do. Anyhoo, thanks for that novella of an explanation. So what your saying is there are city paid/employee staff time being spent on Shrewsbury's non city money paid for web site? Things that make you go hmmmm...
By the way, hope you had a great Turkey Day A. French you player!
