Committeeman Patrick Cacchione kicked off his campaign to become the next alderman of the 6th Ward with a well-attended party and fundraiser at Sqwires last night. Labels: Alderman_Races
"Here in the 6th Ward, we are a microcosm of the city with rich and poor, blacks and whites, new immigrants and long-time residents and we have business and residential," Cacchione told the crowd.
"We embrace and celebrate our diversity and if anyone thinks they can use our diversity to divide us they better think twice. This election is not about where you are from but where we are going together."
Cacchione is expected to face former Congressional aide Kacie Starr Triplett, Tower Grove East resident Christian Saller, and possibly others in the March 2007 primary.

Patrick's party looks more like a microcosm of Lafayette Square-- rich, white and gay.

Where's the diversity that he spoke about? Hmmm.. Also funny that he spoke about bringing people together, when he ran one of the most divisive aldermanic races against Reed almost 8 years ago.

If that race was so "divisive" why was Cacchione appointed committeeman by Lewis Reed's co-campaign chair and 6th ward committewoman, Beverly Bucheit?

Let me educate you a bit "6th Ward voter". I doubt if you really live in the 6th Ward because if you did then you would know what really happened that led to the appointment of Cacchione as Committeman. Let me just say that its not because of his "qualifications". He is merely a stand in. Someone that will do as the Committeewoman says. As far as the divisivness that was evident when he lost in the primary and went to help Goodson who ran as an Independent in an attempt to beat out Reed.

I've heard some interesting things about this race, like tens of thousands of dollars being raised by all of the candidates to gain this seat. If find that a bit disturbing since it's only an alderman position that pays approximately 28K. It's an important ward, but come on.

Patrick Cacchione was appointed by Committeewoman Beverly Bucheit to replace the seat vacated by Congressman Russ Carnahan.
Congressman Russ Carnahan gave his blessings to Patrick Cacchione to become the next Committeeman of the 6th Ward and gave a strong, supportive, lengthy speech about why he was a great choice. At that time and until she announced, Kacie Triplett was very supportive of Patrick Cacchione.
However, what a difference a day makes! Although Kacie Triplett was on the executive board of the 6th Ward and never voiced a descending opinion about Cacchione, now she is against him. Well, Congressman Carnahan endorsed Cacchione for Committeeman and you can figure what will follow suit.
For "Nasty", the extensive money being raised is because Ald. Lewis Reed has built a beautiful ward, that anyone would love to take over. The 6th Ward is very diverse, and most people in St. Louis that have visited that area love it!
When Marit Clark was Alderman, residents were fighting over basketball goals being taken down in the local park. The 6th Ward has come a long way since she vacated that seat!

If anyone thinks that Congressman Carnahan is going to give his support to Cacchione then they are nuts...especially when Cacchione has given more money to Talent than to Carnahan. It would be foolish for Triplett to resign from her seat if she didn't think the support from her former employer was inevitable.

I don't think it is fair to say that Kacie is against Patrick anymore than he is against her. It is very democratic to proclaim yourself to be the best candidate for an office without being against the others -- I hope Kacie, Patrick and Christian will all remember this as they each work to become the next aderman for the 6th Ward.
