PUB DEF 14, STL AMERICAN 0

By Antonio D. French

Filed Monday, November 13, 2006 at 9:48 AM

A couple of weeks ago, in our open letter to the St. Louis American -- written in response to yet another unprovoked jab in their Political Eye column -- we asked a question in a comment.

In the absence of any kind of real reporting (have you broken a single story this year?) you've turned a once-great newspaper into a gossip rag, something people pick up just to see which local African-American you spit at this week.

The question was, have they broken any stories this year? We don't read the paper regularly so it was an honest question. So this week we picked up a copy of the American (why not, it's free). And we got our answer.

In the last seven days, PubDef.net was the first or only news outlet to report 14 different stories. As far as we can tell, the American didn't break a single piece of news.

They did however take another jab at this reporter.

Amazingly, in just one sentence the still-anonymous character assassin at the American makes two factual inaccuracies:

By the way, at least one of Talent’s quasi-supporters in the local "independent" media went nowhere near his candidate’s party at the Frontenac Hilton, spending the evening cheering results at McCaskill’s party downtown. Funny how that worked out.

It's sad. So long a champion of biased and opinion-laced reporting, the American no longer even recognizes what non-partisan reporting looks like.

And they're blind too. Here's our video from the Talent watch party, in which we interviewed radio commentator Jamie Allman and flashed shots of Talent, Sen. Kit Bond, and even consultant Tim Person, another frequent target of the American's venom.

So why does the St. Louis American continue to take shots at this little website? Look at the scoreboard.

By the way, at least one of the anonymous contributors to the local "black weekly" went nowhere near a candidate’s party at the Renaissance downtown because he's such an outcast from his former party. Sad how that works.

Antonio, why worry over it...
They (STL A) do not mind publishing articles and spinning them, yet they do not like when their hand is called on it. TOUGH!!! They (STL A) should try reporting a full, balanced story, or they shouldn't be reporting to begin with.
They will continue to plunge, if they do not learn what the word "objectivity" means. Keep up the great reporting.

The "HP" GANG...

A French, you are Super Scooper dog! The American is simply promulgating what we have bottom lined: PLAYER HATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED, JUST HATE THE GAME. Which is what the American is doing. Heck you ought to recruit Alvin Reid! I am ready to begin my weekly column my main man, then we can double out scoop them. Vive PUB DEF!

If the owner of the American spent less time on his sexually deviant behaviors and directed his pretending to be black lap dog , white editor to actually report the news instead of trying to keep the field negroes in line, then the American could perhaps be a better paper. Until that time the PubDef rules!! Bet neither one of them denies either of these. HA!

Go! That is money and GAME! It's your world, OFFICIALLY!

You know, I thought it was just me. I'm being biased, with my unreasonably high expectations. Okay, they didn't break the Lenehan NAACP story, even though everybody in the Lou heard that jab at Cindofsleezy Rice on the radio. I mean, I aint down with her - no, but still. This administration is what it is, and old girl has the gig - good for her. My thing is Condi's got greater issues that the American needed to dig deeply into and expose. My expectations of coverage of the outragious racist offense of second African American Secretary of State in US history by the African American news organ in the city where the offence occurred was a lot bigger than what I got in those limited few paragraphs. For that, I was picqued. It was bad enough I could never use the rag to find a decent job, but now I couldn't depend on it to tell a real truth now in a compentent way either. Then, they went off to display and glamorize black republicans, a social oxymoron in this red state neck of the middle American woods, all corrosively coupled to Jim Talent's shameless pandering to the Black community. Jim Talent! JIM TALENT!!! AUGH!!!!!!!!!! What was worse was that none of this provoked vomiting in this bunch. Saint Louis is still notorious for voter fraud, overt racism, crony politics, and countless other issues that affect the community to whom these idiots commonly speak via weekly news. And, they give us Jim Talent. JIM TALENT!!! AUGH!!!!!!!!!! I just couldn't take anymore.

I can remember hating the 49ers' game the same way I hate the game of the Saint Louis American. Montana was a good quarterback, and Rice was the best receiver in the game at that moment. The thing that hafed me though was how they played the game. That they bordered on cheating is an understatement.

The Saint Louis American is kind of in that same state. The way they hold back so much of the story because somebody is either too lazy to investigate an issue or too scared to tell it like it is sickens me as a reader. The STLA gives you more useless drivel these days about folks' kids, celebrity gossip, and covert instructions on how uppity coloreds need to tom more to make it than any black news organ in America. There is a better way to play the black American News game than this shadiness rendered every Wednesday by the STLA.
