Ozier Challenging Boyd in the 22nd

By Antonio D. French

Filed Friday, November 10, 2006 at 8:24 AM

The political fighting in the 22nd Ward continues as the former Alderman Jay Ozier prepares to challenge current Alderman Jeffrey Boyd in the March 2007 primary.

Ozier, a close ally of another former 22nd Ward alderman, Kenny Jones, was at the polls Tuesday passing out fliers announcing his candidacy. Click here to see it.

Ozier and Jones attempted to recall Boyd in 2005, but their petition fell short of the required number of signatures after the election officials discovered numerous invalid signatures -- including those of deceased voters.

The case was referred to Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce's office months ago, but a grand jury has yet to deliver any indictments in the case. Should there be a trial, both Ozier and Jones are expected to testify.

That is a pretty boring flier.

Great pic of Jay...he looks really smart...NOT!!!

Say, wasn't he involved in that recall mess with all the fraudulent ballots. Maybe Joyce is taking so long because she has a close relationship with Kenny Jones and Jay Ozier.

Jay is actually a guy with some good ideas, I've talked with him and Kenny a few times...I found Kenny to be very intelligent--widely read.

If Ozier is a good guy then he needs better advertisement, because this flier does not indicate his platform or vision. Not the best way to get support.

Jay's good ideas apparently may land him in jail. For over 20 years the residents of the 22nd Ward has not seen many good ideas, except the creation of more vacant lots and buildings. If one has to cheat to win, how can the community trust him? Kenny Jones and Jay Ozier have made a mockery out of the election process with their fraudulant recall attempt. Did someone says hundreds and hundreds of signatures were forged including dead people signatures. Ozier and Jones are the biggest jokers in St. Louis. Boyd will probably shame them in his bid for re-election.

I think Jeffrey Boyd has done an outstanding job in the 22nd ward. He has done more things than Kenny Jones and Jay Ozier has done in twenty years under their crooked leadership. The 22nd ward needs a young, intelligent, energetic person like Jeffrey Boyd. Can the same be said for Ozier.

Jay Ozier is so old that he has to drink prune juice to stay regular, and thankfully there are many opportunities to take a dump in his own house. So Jay should stay home on the regular, because he will have the runs trying to beat Jeffrey Boyd in the 22nd Ward.

Jay Ozier does not have any energy and the energy he does have is lost through his habitual stuttering, anyone that listens to him will get tired trying to understand what the hell he is staying!

Jay should get ready for retirement!

Actually from the looks of it Jeffery Boyd is sending these anonymous comments. They all sound the same; either that or his supporters don’t have the guts to sign their name. I am on the Union West Community Corporation Board and have worked with both Jeffery Boyd and Jay Ozier. Boyd attempts to control everything. From the first day he was elected Alderman he demanded that two board members be removed from our board otherwise he would remove funding. The two board members had Boyd fired from his previous job as Executive Director of Union West for financial malfeasance. Talk about a crook. Since then he has removed funding from Union West with trumped up charges, the real reason for his action is that we brought back one of the board members he had removed.
I have written CDA and told them I would welcome an independent audit and investigation from HUD. Meanwhile Boyd has done all he can to destroy Union West. We were content to go our separate ways, but he is vindictive and won’t leave us alone. Either he or his agents continue to harass us. His actions indicate that if he can’t control the organization then he doesn’t want Union West to succeed in any other way.
And as far as the recall effort he fails to mention that he called signers of the recall petition and threatened them to make them take their name off the petition.
We at Union West have a great deal of proof of his malfeasance. That is part why we would like a HUD investigation. Boyd has told people in the past that he has CDA wrapped around his finger, and it seems that way. So CDA has limited oversight ability.

Jay Ozier would be a fine alderman, with him as committeeman and Kenny Jones as when he was alderman the 22nd Ward they were always a positive force in the Ward and most important they know how to get along with people.
At Union West we are working with another nonprofit and a for profit company on new redevelopment plans. Boyd will do nothing else but try to submarine those efforts when they become public. The 22nd ward needs new aldermanic leadership to accomplish something other than the personal gain that is Boyd’s main goal. He bad mouths people that don’t bow to him continually. He is divisive and has turned the ward into a hate filled place to be.
Jay Ozier would heal the divisions that Boyd has created. Jay will supply the leadership that the ward needs. And Doug if you can create a more attractive flyer, then maybe you can help Jay out?

I am a longtime resident of the 22nd ward. Explain what positive force did Jay Ozier and Kenny Jones do in the 22nd ward. What would make me vote for Ozier? I am seeing great things being done in the 22nd ward now that I have not seen in the past. What would make me vote for Jay Ozier and see the 22nd ward go backwards. Am I missing something? Maybe an independent audit and investigation from hud will prove if any wrong doings was going on at Union West or not. I saw the piece on channel 5 about Union West it appeared to me that some people was guilty of wrong doings.
Let's be honest here you know Jeffrey Boyd is a better alderman than Kenny Jones or Jay Ozier.

I'm truly curious why Jay Ozier would even want the job.

Jeff Boyd is young and ambitious. It's easy to see why he wants to be alderman: he wants to improve his neighborhood and he has a bright future.

Why would Ozier want to be alderman?

gmichaud,
Did the story that Mike Owens did on channel 5 lie on you and the board of directors? The story stated that the board allowed Ms. Reed to give her husband a $3,000 hook-up to clean an apartment. If that is so, isn’t that a conflict of interest. It has been said that one of the board members had a friend endorse a $500 check back over to her after work was completed by her and her husband. If that is so, isn’t that a conflict of interest. It has been said that the board hired back Ms. Reed after she was fired for stealing. Isn’t that insane? gmichaud it sounds like you are very bitter. Maybe you and the Union West Board should seek counseling.

I am not going to make him a flier, but he should at least put his platform on it!

I mean how is the voter supposed to know what you stand for if you don't say it!

Oh yes Mike Owens, lets see he does a one sided story at the behest of Jeffery Boyd. And his wife happens to be an Alderwoman. I try to tell Owens the facts, through numerous emails and conversations. But I guess for the news media it is too much time and trouble to verify the facts. Now you would think that he should ethically remove himself from a story that involved the political scene. Especially since his wife is an Alderwoman. It’s a little strange that journalists don’t seem to have to acknowledge ethical conflicts of interests when everyone else does. His involvement in the story is a complete ethical lapse. The result is the usual story, he does a favor for Jeffery Boyd; you do a favor for his wife. The result is I don’t watch Channel Five any more, their news, I have found, is not to be believed.
So as far as the distortions and lies you present in oh so much detail, which is why I would prefer to have HUD to do an investigation. Jeffery Boyd may be able to manipulate CDA and local officials with various tactics but the federal government, specifically, the FBI and HUD are not subject to Jeffery Boyd’s manipulations.

Doug, you are correct of course. I can't speak for him, but I think Jay Ozier was just trying to let people know he is running for 22nd Ward Alderman.

How can anyone believe anything you say. Fay Davis is the alderwoman in the 22nd ward. She is not the wife of Jeffrey Boyd. Are you trying to fool the people of the 22nd ward with your comments? Don't you think the people of the 22nd ward know who their alderwoman is? You act like Jay Ozier and Kenny Jones. Quit playing.

I'm truly curious how many people are elected as an alderperson. If Jeffrey Boyd is the alderman how can his wife be the alderwoman? G:
How can his wife benefit from a favor from mike owens. Is she an elected official?

First: Just because a ideal is not yours, does not mean that it is not a good ideal.
Second: We must learn to agree to
disagree.
Third: No two people are going to ever see eye to eye on all matters.

We in the 22nd ward must learn to work together. We must learn that everything has a season. When the old season passes we must force ourselves to except the new. We must learn to work with those we disagree with for the greater good of the ward. We must dedicated our efforts toward an ideal because it is needed in our community not vilify it because the concept was not ours. We must stop thinking about self and starting thinking about the improvement; the empowerment; and the employment of our community.
The 22nd ward is on the move. We have new constuction, new businesses, and new plans for future projects.

Lets all be part of the solution verses being the creator of problems.

Its time for Jay Ozier and Kenny Jones to just step aside. Winning is no fun if you have to cheat to do so. Using dead people signatures to overthrow our Alderman Boyd is just not right.
Under the young leadership of Jeffrey Boyd more positive things are happening. Jay Ozier nor Kenny Jones did anything for their community when they were in office so why put them back in office to do more of nothing!!!

I would like to encourage Mr. Ozier to reconsider his quest to run for Alderman after what he has done and have not done. He has made a fool of himself as well as embarrassed his supporters with his failed recall attempt. He has been absent of any real leadership in his role as Committeeman. No non really knows him in the 22nd Ward and he doesn't meet with anyone to talke about elections. He only shows up at the polls during elections. What is the voter education piece that a Committeeman provides as well as the Committeewoman. How can the 22nd Ward and the citizens of St. Louis trust a proven cheat who said on television count the good signatures and basically forget about the bad ones. The people of the 22nd Ward has seen the leadership of Ozier and Jones for over 20 years. Boyd has finally shown the residents of the 22nd what empowerment looks like with record turn-outs at every ward meeting each month, Annual Christmas Parties and Community Festivals. If things like that is not providing community building then, what do Ozier and Jones propose to create a healthier community?
