The Post-Dispatch picked up on our story about a recent comment made by a PR person at the Convention and Visitors Commission. Labels: Crime, Media_Watch
Attempting to debunk the city's recent designation as the "most dangerous" in the U.S., [Mary] Hendron said she was explaining that the city's crime figures were skewed by some areas.
"It's a bad part of town, but every city has a bad part of town," Hendron told the industry publication. "Frankly, the only reason anyone would go there would be to purchase crack cocaine."
The comments were the last line in a story about the commission's reaction to the crime ranking. It ran last week in Venues Today's weekly electronic newsletter — sent to 3,000 subscribers in the sports and entertainment industry — and reported locally on a blog, Pub Def.
Thanks for the mention, Jake.

I don't know which is worse...
saying that the only reason to go to some neighborhoods is to buy crack...
or to suggest that tourists should only check out the "pleasantville" parts of town.
doesn't sound like Mary knows how to have much fun.

That's funny!
I guess "MARY" didn’t understand the basic concept of ‘off the record.’ Maybe next time she will understand...
It guarantees nothing. Journalists do not have a magic ‘off’ switch that is activated when you say the words ‘off the record.’ If you want to keep a secret, don’t tell anyone.

How is it fair that the punks from the county get to come to the city buy their "drugs" and then go back to the safety of the county?
