PUB DEF EXCLUSIVE Labels: Exclusive, Health, U.S._Senate_Race
Republican Sen. Jim Talent, in the middle of a very close campaign with Democrat State Auditor Claire McCaskill, took a few minutes yesterday to sit down with PUB DEF to discuss what he sees as the choice facing Missouri voters in November. He also answers why he's taken the position he has on the stem cell debate and why he hasn't taken a position on the proposal to raise Missouri's minimum wage.

Talent gave some pretty intelligent and thoughtful answers. I personally wish he would just come out against the minimum wage increase because as it is written it does hurt small businesses. But I appreciate that he doesn't just jump on the bandwagon as say he supports it just to get a few extra votes.

It's amazing how selfish can be. We are talking about people who are paid the least amount allowed by law. They need a raise just like the ones Congress have given themselves over the past decade. Talent sure took that extra cash when he was in Congress didn't he. What did he give small businesses in exchange then?

I wish you had asked him about his blind support of Bush's war in Iraq. For me, this race is 100% about getting the Senate back under the control of the Democrats so they can provide some kind of balance for this out of control White House and its right wing agenda. Claire McCaskill is not my favorite Democrat but Jim Talent has got to go. Lives depend on it.
