The new Southwest City Dog Park, sponsored by the Southampton Neighborhood Association, will have a grand opening celebration tomorrow, Sept. 23, at its location in Willmore Park. Labels: Events
The park, which provides a fenced space for dog owners to allow their dogs to run and play off-leash, is the first in a St. Louis City park.
UPDATE (9/23): Here's video from the event...

The model's name is "Tina" and we recued her from the city pound a few months ago. As you can tell, she's thrilled about the new dog park and can't wait to go tomorrow.

How does the park feel about dangerous breeds such as pit bulls, rottweilers etc..? I own a pitbull, he is not dangerous by any means, but he still gets thrown a curveball because of the stigma attached to his breed. I just don't want to make a trip up there to find out we are not welcome.

As a Board member of the new dog park, I can tell you we have discussed at length concerns with rough play, regardless of breed, and our general concensus is that instances of aggression are a sign that membership might not be right at the park. Being in a city park, the Southwest Dog Park at Wilmore Park requires its members to obey all applicable laws, including being current on vaccinations--proof of which must be shown to join. I hope that everyone will be able to join us tomorrow for the festivities. We expect a great turn-out and a wonderful time.

Congratulations to all those who made this happen. This is yet another reason why St. Louis is an attractive place to live.

I know the people from Southampton who put this together and would like to applaud their efforts! It was a lot of work pulling together the money and donations. Visit the website for more info. This is just another example of what a small group of people in an active neighborhood association can achieve.

I just want to say thank you Travis (and the board) for not singling out certain breeds. I love my pitty, and he is trained and as loveable as any other dog, but so many people judge him simply on his breed.
Congrads on the grand opening, it looks like everyone had a blast!
