A Circuit Court judge today ruled against the group seeking to recall 3rd Ward Alderman Freeman Bosley, Sr. The judge ruled that the St. Louis City Board of Elections does have the right to allow signers of the petition to have their names removed from the petition by way of a signed affidavit.
Bosley and his supporters succeeded in getting hundreds of signers to opt to have their names removed -- enough, in fact, to leave the petition well short of the required number of valid signatures.

I hope people finnaly stop freaking out when they hear a that some one is planning a recall.
This is just one more example of how hard a recall is to pull off.

As I have stated many times, the number and scope of the current recall efforts, if successful, could have a destabilizing effect on our City's government and ability to operate. I think there is some just cause to "freak out" when there is a level of irresponsibility taken to the recall movement. The proper use of the recall tool has been usurped from the citizens by those that seek to inflict damage to certain elected offials for personal or political gain.

Travis,
Have you spent much time driving through the third ward?
Have you listened to some of the ideas of Alderman Bosley?
Have you heard the stories about his extracurricular activities?
Do you know about his mattress factory business?
Have you seen the accellerated negative change in the third ward in the last few years.
Can you cite any examples of successful leadership provided by Alderman Bosley that has raised the health of third ward residents?
Any progress in the third ward is due to others bringing resources to the area, not Bosley's vision.

My comments were not about an specific recall initiative, but rather the destabilizing effect of all the efforts in toto.

As for the 3rd Ward; that is so unfortunate for those people who just may be forced to live in that ghost-town,until they too are betrayed and forced out for properties they are not considered good enough for. whatever happened to,"don't bite the hand that feeds you" I guess that went out with the platform you campaigned on, the constituent vaporized and big money making developers came to the table. HUH? Looks pretty convenient for a politican to allow much of his voting area to be blighted? who can cry eminent domain? Just a select few who still have houses standing in pockets of the delosate place they call the 3rd ward. But of course they should be proud that developers will be continuing to develope properties far beyond the reach of any of those citizens who called the 3rd ward their home. I always wait for the final act in a stagged performance such as this one playing in the 3rd ward, "Another politican goes down in history for beignning the greatest by stepping on the backs of those who keep voting them in?" Political officials in the city of saint louis and abroad have been successful at showing the voters, money talks and it doesn't even have to vote. It's almost impossible to speak of politians during wholesome family conversations(with the children; some of us still do that around the dinner table) on any level of our government,be it city, state, federal. It has become so hard to believe anyone, anywhere associated with any part of our government. The politician have become so driven by their own personal agendas they have actually forgotten who voted them into their various positons of power. Rather than single out any specific individuals, I remain pretty general. But we are stating to get a pretty good idea as to who stole the cookie out the cookie jar, but who in their right mind would own up to it, so everybody becomes suspect. So to make a long-story short, all the good politicans have to suffer the retribution of those who should solely bare the shame for their actions. In my profession I come across some very strong-willed young people who would love to get into politics, and rather than to discourge them, and speak too badly about adults and their lack of professionalism, I just remind them that whatever their endeavors be careful of pursuing successes on the backs of the innocent (those who trusted you). I do encourage the political process just carefully study long and study hard your candidate of choice and don't just vote for the familiar name you see all the time. My prayers are with those folks in the 3rd ward. (Get proactive people)

Recalls are a form of direct democracy which enable citizens to hold their elected officials accountable for their actions.
If elected officials would listen to said concerned parties then perhaps recalls would not occur.
Without the initiative, referendum, and recall our system of government would be authoritarian. You might disagree with the motivations behind the recall, yet it signifies democratic activism which everyone can appreciate.
