Only Seven Hours Left

By Antonio D. French

Filed Tuesday, August 08, 2006 at 12:15 PM

E-DAY UPDATE... Polls close in less than seven hours. No reports of any craziness yet, but several people have told PUB DEF about some confusion involving the optical scan ballots. Some election judges are failing to remind voters that there are ballot issues on the second page. As a result many folks are undervoting.

As always, if you've got a tip call (314) 518-2364.

Despite saying several times that she wanted a Democrat ballot, this voter inserted her card into the electronic voting machine and was faced with the opportunity to vote for Jim Talent.

The horror, the horror.

Was not told of any measures on the back side of the ballot, but knew enough to look for it. My guess is it gets missed by many. 28th ward.

I vote in the 4th ward at St. James House...and it was a MESS. I wanted to use the touch screen but because they didn't know how to get the card working they tried to force me to use the old way. I told them I would wait until they fixed the problem and I did...and 45 minutes later I voted. I think the process is a mess and how to they expect people to get use to using the touch screen if the folks working the polls don't understand it. I was upset at how they ran the polls, no signs were posted and I didn't hear anyone reminding people that in November they would need to show a picture ID. I also wanted a democrat ballot and it didn't appear on the screen the first time. I also had to tell someone working the polls that I didn't need his help but he wanted to stand behind me anyway. I told him that I coulnt' start until he moved. He seemed upset but I didn't want him looking over my shoulder. I'm a young woman in my 20's and walked after my workout with my IPOD on my arm, and my Blackberry on my hip, don't you think I know how to use a freaking touchscreen computer!!!
