Coleman: Slay May Not Be Forgiven

By Antonio D. French

Filed Monday, August 07, 2006 at 5:33 PM

State Senator Maida Coleman told PUB DEF today that she still feels disrespected by Mayor Francis Slay and would have a tough time forgiving her former ally even if he did apologize for his recent behavior -- which he has not.

As we reported over the weekend, Coleman was taken aback by a call on her cell phone from an angry and loud Slay last week. The mayor yelled at the senator about a letter she recently wrote to Gov. Matt Blunt defending the recent actions of the St. Louis City School Board.

"The only instability that you talk about in your press release that has occurred happened under the old majority school board, which the Mayor of St. Louis helped elect," wrote Coleman.

Slay ended his tirade with a thinly veiled threat: "Good luck with any future political plans you may have."

Coleman, who asserts that she never yelled back at the mayor, told PUB DEF today that even if Slay did offer to patch things up with her, she doesn't know if she can forgive him for speaking to her in such a disrespectful and bullying manner.

"I'll make my peace with God. I'll have to think twice about Francis Slay," she said.

Who does Slay think he is anyway?

Mayor Slay should have yelled at her. She is not stable and her comments were inappropriate. She has no business in the Missouri Senate and term limits will thankfully remove her but not soon enough!

Brian there is little to report during the summer when there are few meetings and fewer happenings. I expect that Antonio will be writing more, come September.

Brian, I've been a little occupied with this little election coming up tomorrow. Don't worry, after Tuesday (well, more like after a couple of rest days after Tuesday) my attention will turn back to SLPS and City Hall.

I think her comments were right on the money, and very truthful...Slay created and supported the circus school board we had, just need to replace 3 more and then the board will be sound.Slay has lost lots of political support in my/his 23rd ward.I was waiting for him to ask the State to take over the Post Dispatch...LOL.or maybe Matt Blunt to help him out....GIVE ME A BREAK..NEW SLOGAN...CRYBABY SLAY

Ha, ha, ha. What a stretch Anonymous #2. Maida Coleman is one of the very few really stable legislators that we have. Check out her record, the success she has enjoyed and the way she has gone to bat for St. Louis. It's a shame that you would put out a baseless allegation like that.

After all, Slay called her. So he started it. If you want to support Slay, that's fine. Just don't make up lies to do it.

Anonymous #8, "baseless allegation"--it is my opinion that Coleman is unstable and that she should be out of the Senate. She cannot hold a candle to Paula J. Carter, Jet Banks or even Ray Howard who came before her.

The Mayor of the City of St. Louis should have the ability to discuss and involve himself with the schools. I don't agree with many things that they did on the old School Board but just because he is not on the Board, he should not just have no interaction with the schools.

Inspecteur Clouseau ici: Brian, mon ami, must you use such ugly language for such a trivial matter? Anonymous #2, c'est mon opinion, I think Brian appears more unstable than what you think Maida appears, n'est-ce pas?

Anyone who cannot ask a simple question without using filthy, obscene profanity has a serious mental, psychological problem. If he is married, pity his poor femme! Et ses enfants! Mon Dieu! Those poor kids.

Slay better watch out. If Smith wins today, Slay had best not support Villa to succeed Coleman in 2008, or everyone in town will be backing McMillan over Slay in 2009.

Remember when Francis the Bald was telling opponets of his slate to lighten up and support reform?

Seems that he can't live by his own words. What a self-serving bully. He makes Schoemehl look better every day!

Senator Maida Coleman was elected by the citizens of the City of St. Louis to be their reperesentative in both the Missouri House then the Missouri Senate. These legislative bodies make the laws by which our schools must operate. Obviously these citizens believe her to be competent and in touch with them, her constituency. They trust her to represent them and the best interest for their families. It is true, Senator Coleman has worked closely with Mayor Slay and carried the city's legislation through the years and when situations have occurred where she honestly believes the city's agenda is not right for her constituency, she respectfully questions the effects such legislation would have on the quality of life for the residents of the City. I have never seen or heard of Senator Coleman going down to City Hall and interfering with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen's administration of the city - she respects that these people were elected, the same as she was for, to represent their consituency on city matters, just as the School Board was elected to run the schools. Obviously the residents of the State of Missouri think it a good idea to have seperate bodies of government including school systems to keep a level of seperation and independence to prevent a dictatorship.

Inspecteur Clouseau ici: Monsieur le mayor, Slay, must be a twin of Vince Schoemehl. Both men, tout les deux hommes, feel free to brow beat les femmes (women), especially black women.

Are there any big, strong men around to come to the rescue of these women in distress?

Peut-ĂȘtre, Madame Claire McCaskill could speak out against ces fanfarons (these bullies) and expose them for what they are. After all, her first name, "Claire," is French for "light." St. Louis (another Frenchman, bien sure) needs to shine a clear light on such bullies in the Democratic Party. How would they treat Hillary?

C'est tout (that's all), mes amis.

Why is it that when a black female politician says something the Old Boy Network doesn't like, she's labeled "mentally unstable"?
