Claire McCaskill's campaign announced today that she has received the endorsement of the Missouri State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Labels: Police, U.S._Senate_Race
Law enforcement officers from the over 5,000 members of the FOP will join McCaskill and local Sheriffs for the official endorsement tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. in front of the Eagleton Federal Courthouse, 111 South 10th Street, in downtown St. Louis.
McCaskill, who is seeking to replace U.S. Senator Jim Talent, will also outline her plan to give local law enforcement the tools they need to "fight terrorism and make Missouri more secure."

Endorsement by a police group probably means McCaskill has promised never to support civilian oversight.
Yesterday the Progressive Party filed petitions and nomination papers for six candidates, all of whom support civilian oversight (including someone running against Talent and McCaskill).

I wonder what her stance is on the Residency Requirement?

The Southwest City Journal is today reporting that a majority of attendees at the Police Board meeting at St. Raymond's support ending residency requirements. Um, wasn't there a storm that night? And getting seven folks to speak against residency is hardly the majority voice of the people.
I say vote down the tax increase this August for more officers. Such increase can wait until after the voters have spoken in November on residency requirement.

How is residency for police officers and the need for more police officers relavent???
You complain about the police officers being able to move from the City after 7 years but I have NEVER heard one person complain about the teachers in the St. Louis Public School System being able to live anywhere they want, even out of state.
They get paid by the City of St. Louis and probably have just as big a stake, if not bigger, than police officers.
If the City is making such a great comback why do you need to force people to live in it?

City jobs belong in the City period, regardless if its the SLPS, STLPD, etc.
If you are paid by the STL taxpayers, then you live here.
Representing the City at any level of public service, and not living in the City limits is contradictory.
