At a special meeting yesterday, the St. Louis Teachers' Union unanimously voted "no confidence" in Superintendent Creg Williams and his administration. The union also asked for the resignation of former school board member Vince Schoemehl from the school system's pension board. Labels: Schools

Nice to see that this was the teachers' plan all along, even after getting the school board majority they supposedly wanted. But as the recent election showed, most have already voted "no confidence" in our schools, teachers included.

It amazes me how the Teachers in the SLPS can speak so loudly about everything BUT the students and their education. I have watched, listend and learned quite a bit before forming an opinion...and I can now conclude that although it is not everyone, it seems so much easier for the Union to point the finger at Dr. Williams ALL THE TIME instead of just doing their jobs...period. I have heard the Union complain about everything from job security to being told by Dr. Williams to keep their classrooms clean. Yet, it has not occured to them that when our students are not up to par...it reflects not ONLY the parents and the superintendent but guess who?...THE TEACHERS! So, my stance is on the side of Dr. Williams at this point and that is...when we can get actual results of renewed passionate teaching, unconditional giving and selflessness showcased on a mega level throughout the student body...I am not interested in hearing the additional complaints of a union that has not produced. It even leaves me to question whether or not the teachers are just upset that someone (Dr. Williams and company) has finally highlighted weak areas that the Union probably knew about all along? Its something how 'darkness' always hates the 'light'.

Hizzoner appears to be blogging threats of charter schools in response to the teachers' threat of "no confidence" in their superintendent:
"Superintendent Creg Williams is an agent for change. Change is hard. But, given how poorly this district has done over the last several decades, it is hard for me to imagine how anyone could defend the status quo.
This may be the St. Louis Public Schools last best chance to get it right. If they fail again, the City’s public school district will likely look very different in the future."

And what is that supposed to mean blogger? The SLPS will look different in the future....could you be speaking about what is happening around the St. Louis City as we speak? The recognition that our far friends from West County and such are moving rapidly back into the City and that may be the underline catalyst driving change in the SLPS? Is that why you are for/against Dr. Williams? Does He being an agent for change help THE CHANGE happening right in front of our faces?
