Mayor Francis Slay's campaign committee raised $163,300 in the first three months of 2006. After doling out $115,000, he closed the quarter with nearly $270,000 in the bank. Labels: Fundraising, Mayor
As of March 31, Slay for Mayor had paid nearly $18,000 to Cardinals Ballpark LLC for season tickets, $22,000 to Richard Callow's Public Eye, Inc. for "communication advice," and nearly $24,000 to Neil Swanson, of Kansas City, for expenses related to the mayor's website.
As we reported earlier, the Mayor also made a $40,000 loan to a political action committee backing Darnetta Clinkscale and James Buford for school board.

Here's what I love:
Gerard A. Nester, Atty at Law
Employer: NA
Occupation: NA
Last I checked, this guy was the STL City Public Administrator.
Oh, but he doesn't have an employer.
Or does he...

Oh please.
Do you think he acts as PA out of the goodness of his heart?
And even if he did, why the evasiveness?

No blogging yet on Kennedy's reaction to hizzoner's veto? The American's PE (not Callow's) alleged the alderholsers won't nominate anyone per Fran's Order.

PA is a paid position, but it's not an easy one either.

PA is a paid position, but Nester is also an attorney in private practice.

Hmmm, could this help to explain how Kwame won the SLPS bid, even with the highest quote?

There is no salary for the public administrator from any governmental unit, or any budget for his staff. The PA is entitled to fees which are collected directly from the estates he administers. This revenue must also pay for any other staff salaries in the office and all office expenses. (I don't know whether he has to pay for the office space in the Civil Courts Building.)
From a campaign reporting perspective, Nester should have been listed as self-employed, with his occupation being either attorney or public administrator. The reporting by Slay's committee was sloppy.
