PUB DEF EXCLUSIVE
At an unrelated press conference this morning, PubDef reporter Gabe Bullard asked Governor Matt Blunt about the status of his two controversial education appointees, Rick Sullivan and Derio Gambaro. The governor said he remains hopeful that Democratic Senators Jeff Smith (Gambaro's senator) and Joan Bray (Sullivan's senator) will come around and support the men.

Will Blunt Withdraw Sullivan? Gambaro Too?
Has he reappointed them, yet?
ReplyDeleteIs the sab meeting tonight?
ReplyDeleteHas Sullivan been reported?
If he has not, what will Gaines say about it?
Has sullivan been reassigned, not reported. Not exactly a freudian slip.
ReplyDeleteKojoe,
ReplyDeletePlease send Blunt an email asking him to answer your questions. If I were in Blunt's shoes I would be more concerned about how this would affect the 2008 race. It is all about the "big picture", the big race to retain his seat.
THE ONLY QUESTION FOR BLUNT IS WHETHER OR NOT SULLIVAN IS WORTH THE POLITICAL CAPITAL.
Bray is a smart respected stateswoman. I would not disrespect her if I were Blunt. She will do fine with or without him.
From Diana Bourisaw--something had to give---what is the story?
ReplyDelete¡°Rick Sullivan¡¯s appointment to the Special Administrative Board remains in effect. Reports indicating that Governor Blunt withdrew Mr. Sullivan¡¯s appointment are unfounded. The district will continue with business as usual. The next meeting of the Special Administrative Board is Thursday, September 6, at 6 p.m.¡±
If they had a meeting, and Sullivan was still ceo-member, then he must have been re-appointed.
If they did not have a meeting, then maybe they are waiting for him to be reappointed.
Maybe they had the meeting, and just ignored the law.
There is a story---I just do not know what it is.
Veronica---I am wondering if you think Bray is going to last thirty days in January refusing to sponsor Sullivan.
Sometimes I get things into my mind that might not be happening. I am talking about who they will pay or stop paying to handle the lunch program. I am looking at this hiring a separate virtual school, apart from the state, and Bourisaw preferring the Bill Gates approach instead of what the state wants to do---pay those people from Texascan---those seem like things Bourisaw would be doing which Blunt would expect Sullivan to stop her from doing----so if Sullivan is backing Bourisaw too much---maybe Blunt does not mind finding someone to replace him.
Bray seems like a progressive voice----I am not sure how she feels about some of these republican connections to money-grabbing corporations----I would like to think there is a lot behind what all is going on---but it might be something as simple as the convenient time to do the routine paperwork---and nothing is really going on at all.
To me, the big picture, is that Blunt and Slay have an awful lot of trust in outside corporations, whose goal is to make money and hope that good educational things come about as a by-product.
The Post Dispatch reported that they had a meeting----Gaines disagreed with a 7000 dollar contract renewal to an evaluation company first hired in 2005.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to a pubdef report so we can find out what was going on.
kjoe, please explain your comment about Senator Bray not lasting 30 days in January. The Senator is in her final term and cannot be reelected to the Senate. She's not expressed running statewide either so not supporting Sullivan won't hurt her.
ReplyDeleteBray is also the ranking Democrat on Senate Appropriations. For a senator that doesn't represent St. Louis city, she seems to be aware of our greatest issues. It's apparent that she cares about the City also.
I am glad you helped me learn things I did not know.
ReplyDeleteAs I posted at the PD blog---God forbid any reporters try to find out the reasons why the senators are not supporting Blunt's nominees.
This whole story seems like an annoyance to them---
the board met---Giegerich wrote a story about it---and all the talk about when and whether Sullivan was or will be re-appointed was deemed to irrelevant to refer to.
I am surprised that we have nothing from pubdef on the meeting--
KJoe, relax. Back away from the computer. Go outside. Enjoy your weekend. Do not return to PubDef until Monday. It's for your own good.
ReplyDeleteOk.
ReplyDeleteand if my senator stops by where i am playing my horn---we'll talk about baseball or football.
I don't need to know anything.
kojoe
ReplyDeleteTake my advice write Blunt abaout your concerns. Yes Bray is a respected senator and I hope Blunt understands this. She is a strong woman that is about doing what is right for the region.
Kojoe did you go to the art fair tonight? I did>
