St. Louis Has Tasty Water

By Antonio D. French

Filed Monday, June 11, 2007 at 8:46 AM

Appearing on a local news show this morning, Mayor Francis Slay said that the U.S. Conference of Mayors had recently voted, in a blind taste test, the City of St. Louis as one of the five finalists for the "Best Tasting City Water in America."

Slay said the vote was based on three factors: clarity, aroma and taste.

From a starting group of 93, the other finalist cities are Anaheim, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; Long Beach, CA; and Toledo, OH.

The five finalist cities will be advancing to compete at the 75th Annual Meeting of The U.S. Conference of Mayors in Los Angeles (June 22-26) for the title of "Best Tasting City Water in America." Hundreds of mayors from around the nation will then be the blind taste test judges. The winning city will receive a cash award of $15,000 and bragging rights.

this is more true than you realize. people who come into town ask for water once they've tried it, and one of my friends has even asked me to send 'em a bottle of st louis tap water. it just tastes better than the water i taste everywhere else.

that being said, how does this happen?

The little company down on Pestalozzi Street is said to provide lots of support and Technical Assistance to the Water Division. There may be a little self-interest involved, but everyone benefits.

We do have some of the best water in the country. One only needs to travel to the southwest and taste their mineral water, the Texas area for their oily blend or the upper east for their brackish brand.

St. Louis water should be bottled and sold...profits going to any number of worthy causes from fixing up City Hall to funding public works. Perhaps AB can lend a distilery line?????

Ummmmmmm.

It is bottled and sold. The bottles are usually brown.

We'd like to thank our "local volunteer water bottlers" for providing the US Conference of Mayors and the Food and Beverage Providers of the G8 Summit with those outstanding sample KEGS of quality Saint Louis, er, uh, water, yes, WATER, folks!

And, er, uh, disregard all that vicious rumormongering about that bi-regional EPA Alert put out by some hateful DC collective of revolting left-wing tree-hugging bleeding heart whiners to the MSD. We are pretty sure that report is the product of the jealous treachery of those cities whose water is green and bubbles like volcanic lava. The City of Saint Louis is SUING the MSD for that report. Saint Louis' fine lovingly treated water has positively NO raw sewage, toxic treacle, nor molten brimstone in it WHATSOEVER. We in Saint Louis pride ouselves on our fine sparkling Mississippi River water, water clear as an Artesian spring.

Uh, Penny, I'd like to know more about the EPA alert you're talking about, but all your comment tells me is that you have a hamfisted touch with sarcasm.
